Default I found our sleeper RB - awesome!!!

Wether he remains a sleeper or not is now the issue. Just another RB a few weeks ago, and got invited to the combine at the last second, this dude could be just what the doctor ordered.

We could end up having an all ARIZONA backfield this season !!! And we don't even have to trade up to get the guy. Forget #8, he's going at #4 anyway, and we're not trading up 15 spots and giving up 2 1st round picks to get him. #8 remains a pipe dream that will never become reality. The fact is, experts say this is the draft to snag a few DL at least. It's deep in DL, so we snag a few early, and then get our new RB in the 3rd.

Weighing in at 6'0 and 230 pounds, Chris Henry was lucky to even get an invite to the NFL Combine. So when he did arrive, he didn't just run everything but Henry ended up finishing in the top 5 of his group in almost everything: a 4.14 short shuttle (3rd), a 11.51 long shuttle (2nd), a 6.96 three cone (5th), a 10'7" broad jump (1st -T), and of course a 4.40 forty yard dash (1st -T).

Henry also benched 225lbs 26 times (2nd best among RBs) and his 10 yard split in the 40 (1.51) was also second best among among backs and better than Adrian Peterson's time.

All the buzz aside, the question "can Chris Henry run the football" will remain from now until at least training camp. In three years with the Wildcats, Henry carried the football just 255 total times and never ended a season with more than 3.5 yards per carry.

Arizona head coach Mike Stoops was not pleased when Henry decided to enter the draft, saying that Henry could have benefitted from another year in college. But who knows if Stoops is more interested in his own team's depth chart than Henry's future with those comments.

Chris Henry's college profile says his "Academic major is philosophy". It's certain that there will be plenty of speculation about this young man's potential in professional football. NFL teams would love the chance to get a raw running back talent this like that doesn't come with too many miles already attached.

He's been discussed quite a bit over on the Draft forumn. Lots of concern that he is a workout warrior since he played so little for UA

A 3.5 YPA in college is awful. He'd have to be a late second day pick (6th or 7th) to even be worth a look.

Aren't we tired of average in our running backs at this point anyway?

Concern about drafting him would only be about where he is taken. Sure, if you selected him with your 1st or 2nd, that would be a reach. But if he falls to 3rd or 4th round, I don't see much risk at all. Arizona doesn't really have a great program and it's probably a given that there weren't many holes to run behind in that offense. Stoops probably went to another back "Jennings" to take the pressure off himself about lack of production. All the focus then went to "Henry not getting the job done". He's got low miles, no reports of ongoing injuries. AND................he didnt' just do well in 1 or 2 areas. He was 1st or 2nd place in almost all of them. At 6'0 230 pounds, he's got the bod and he runs like a gazelle. I would even trade a 2008 5th or 2009 4th to move up in the 3rd to snag him.

In our offense vision is more important to measurables( see T. Bell). I want to know how well he reads and anticipates his blocks. 3.5 yds/carry in college is awful.

im rooting for Henry as im an AZ guy.

But if he didnt even start for his won team at times, how is he going to be a starter for us?

IMO he could be a workout Warrior, but im hoping he makes an nfl team very happy.

You really need to visit the draft subforum, we been talking about this guy already. His speed means the scouts will have to go take another look at him on film. From the insider on ESPN he does sound like he is a one cut back and go back. It to bad we combine Mike Bell and Henry into one back, that would be the ultimate fit for Denver

It would be a strange irony if Chris Henry Managed to beat Mike Bell in the NFL, when he couldn't beat him out in college for 2 seasons.

Chris Henry didn't always get the chances Bell did. arizona's o line had been horrible. truth is it was much more their fault that henry didnt produce. i can guarantee if henry got here that combo behind our line would be very very productive. Henry's best football is ahead of him.

I'm just saying, there must have been a reason that Mike Bell started and Henry didn't. They played behind the same line for 2 years, and the line was better this season than the seaosn before. It's possible he's a late bloomer I guess. If that was the case though, he should come back for his senior season and raise his stock a little.

Supposedly Stoops is going to more of a spread offense next season and Henry decide he wasn't going to get many opportunities in that style of O. Especial with the sophomore backs that UA has that fit that scheme better. He would end up like Wynn of UF an afterthought in the game planning.

Here is his stat line from that game
ATT YDS AVG
5 24 4.8

Not quite 200. Actually he has never broken 200. In three years a UA he only had one season with more than 200 yards. Looks like he has had one good game ever we would be crazy to waste a draft pick on this guy.

He was probably referring to the Oregon game, which Henry did have 191 yards rushing and 21 recieving. It was a great game, but then he laid an egg against my sundevils, and that was sad. We had a crap run defense last season.

Didn't we learn anything from Mike Mamula? Don't draft guys based solely on the combine. I don't see why we should draft him in the 3rd honestly.
In college, even if you don't have the greatest of lines, you should still produce better than that if you are good. Adrian Peterson's OL's the past 2 years haven't been spectacular, but he still produced.
And again, 7 games last year he was held under a 3.0 average yards per carry during the game. That is horrible.

Not only has U of Arizona's OL been mediocre, but they have had little passing game, so hard to run effectively and consistently when defenses don't have the pass to worry about.

As a late round selection, a guy with his talent would definately be worth a roll of the dice, but definately not with a first day pick. Not anywhere near enough production to warrent that.

In this video

There are a couple of blips of Henry.

at :45 you can see him whiff on a block and get his QB killed
at 3:25 you can see him fumble
at 4:25 you can see him get drilled for a 2-3 yard loss

Yeah, sorry, it was the Oregon game. Also, Bell was the older guy there. He wouldn't have started in front of him just because Bell was good and the upper classman. I don't know about a 3rd rounder. Bell wasn't drafted. All I know is that I called Mike Bell being productive 2 years before he was drafted. Ask my bro, (El Sid). I tend to be able to tell the Arizona players that can be effective in the pro's. Most players at zona can't play. Chris Henry is the freakish type of athlete that can. Stoops is a jackass. THe whole offense was crap. You want a steal, he's it.

Mike Bell averaged more yards per season in college this guy had in his whole career.

I can blame him for the whiff and the fumble. I'm not saying he should be written off for a single game, but it's clear there are things that make him a later round prospect when his measurables say he should be a blue chip guy.
