The Broncos have reportedly signed G Montrae Holland to a one-year contract.
The 6-2/322-pounder wouldn't seem a perfect fit for Denver's zone-blocking scheme on paper, but apparently will push Chris Kuper at right guard. http://www.denverpost.com/ci_5351060?source=rss Sorry Kuper fans, but this guy starts |

I hope Kuper wins...
Anyone know whether he's a run-blocking or a pass-blocking specialist. |

A 320+ pound widebody and road grader type. Great short area blocker with tremendous strength and a little quickness. Has good run blocking technique. Slow footed. Not an effective blocker in space. Struggles against defenders with quick pass rushing moves. Has had three ACL injuries and gets overweight at times. Holland can be a very effective guard in a Norv Turner-type system that calls for huge linemen to push the pile.
not sure i like this signing at all....maybe for depth but thats about it----seems like everything we try to avoid with linemen...not really sure what we were thinking with this pickup...waste of perfectly good cap space |

Good enough no matter what happens we needed another NFL ready guard. Just say goodbye to Coop.

maybe he could be our goal-line specialist.

Shanny wanted beef on both lines. Big Daddy and Montrae add beef to the lines.
Now it's about the glam players DE,RB,TE,QB. Loving the offseason! |

Scouts Inc. says he's a talented up and comer who has problems against 3-techs and linebackers, but is a big strong guy who handles pulling and trapping well. Doesn't do much at the second level either though.
Sounds like quality opposition for Kuper, he'll be 27 in May, I'd have been cool with a little longer deal but with his injury history and Kuper looking so promising its probably better to go it one year at a time on him. Now if we just add an OT in the draft to add extra depth with Meadows behind Pears and Lepsis I'd be very happy with the state of our OL. |

Maybe Kuper gets tried at tackle. He has the size and did it well in college.

that's what I'm thinking, too ... I'm not sure I like the "one-year" deal, though.

Maybe they try Kuper at left guard and try Holland at right guard.
Is it just me or is the fact that Shanahan said they need to get bigger a straight shot at Hamilton our lightest offensive lineman? |

Looks like it is to give competition at RG and more depth. I don't see it as anything to do with Hamilton.

I'm sure Holland, being a career backup, wanted the chance to cash in with next year's cap jump if he gets a year to showcase himself. If he pans out, I won't miss watch the middle of the line get crushed on goal-to-go situations.
