Radio rumors, gotta love em!!
Carroll has failed in the pro's already. He may be able to do better now after sitting out for awhile, but his little act wont work inthe pro's like in college. |

CHARGERS TO INTERVIEW RIVERA, RYAN, GIBBS Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that the Chargers have received permission to interview Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, and Saints defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs for the position abruptly vacated on Monday when the Chargers fired coach Marty Schottenheimer. Rivera will interview for the job within the next 48 hours. He was a finalist for the Steelers job. Word on the street, however, is that he has not been interviewing well. Also, Glazer reports, citing team sources, that USC coach Pete Carroll is not regarded as viable option "at this point." We're intrigued by the whole "at this point" thing. If, as we vaguely suspect, a wink-nod deal already has been done with Carroll, and if the team's objective is to keep it all under wraps while a seemingly legitimate interview process unfolds, wouldn't it make sense for the Chargers to put out the word that Carroll isn't in the running until several other candidates have been "interviewed"? We apologize for being so skeptical. But, the last time we checked, this business was full of people who are full of it. (And we all know what "it" is . . . don't we, Nick?) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POSTED 10:41 a.m. EST, February 13, 2007 REX RYAN A CHARGERS CANDIDATE One name that quickly has emerged as a potential candidate for the sudden vacancy in San Diego is Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan. Ryan, the son of former Eagles and Cardinals coach Buddy Ryan and the twin brother of Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, has spent the last eight years with the Ravens. He replaced Mike Nolan as defensive coordinator when Nolan was hired by the 49ers. Look for Ryan to be one of the first guys interviewed for the job. |

Since it seemed like an odd time to fire your coach. Maybe they did approach Pete and get a gauge on his interest and made of move. Of course with all this NCAA investigating going on about USC also fuels the rumor easy sell.

This sounds like one of those attempts to throw something out there and hope it sticks so you can say you reported it first. I doubt that they have had a chance to interview an African-American coach in this time span which would be a violation of league rules.

Even if they have a guy lined up, they still have to go through a hiring process that involved interviewing minority candidates and all that. If in fact they have Carroll lined up (which I doubt) we wouldn't hear about it for at least a couple days.

Pete Carroll has one of the best football jobs* of the country and seems to be happy, why change
Their are some folks that really do find their dream jobs and aren't looking to move on the pros.* I'm not USC fan |

Look, anything can happen, but based off reason, there is no way this will happen.
Why is it so unlikely? Carrol has already gone on the record a number of times about how he likes the total control he can exert at USC. The closest job that could come close to that in the NFL was in Miami, and he already turned that down. There's no way he's going to come into a situation where the last HC was canned because of an overbearing GM (AJ Smith). Last edited by s0phr0syne; 02-13-2007 at 05:00 PM.. |

No team has to interview anyone they don't want to..this "rooney rule" isn't actually a rule anyone has to follow.

Carrol isn't going anywhere unless he has complete control over football operations.
