Default Step 1 in progress......

Iraq says closes borders with Syria, Iran 4 minutes ago

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's government said on Tuesday it would close its borders with Syria and Iran and extend the hours of a night curfew in Baghdad under a U.S.- backed security plan to rein in violence in the capital.

The measures ordered by Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al- Maliki were announced on Iraqiya state television by Lieutenant General Abboud Qanbar, the Iraqi commander who is leading the U.S.-backed security offensive in Baghdad.

Qanbar said the border with Iran and Syria would be closed for 72 hours. He did not say when the closures would take effect

And so it starts. Eventually though, the borders will have to closed down for an extended period....dman

I understand what they are trying to do, do you?

What Dman has posted is the start of the Iraqis taking responsibility in their own country. My guess is that they are standing on the boarder in their underwear so the guys coming across the border can see they aren't too dangerous.

Tell me Mr. Democrat, if this isn't good enough for you as a start what is your plan?

BAGHDAD, Iraq -
Iraq will close its borders with Syria and Iran for 72 hours as part of the drive to secure and pacify Baghdad. It is a joke. And no, they can't shut down their borders because they don't have the people to do it.

Reminds me of Kevin Bacon in "tremors" , running to the valley with a half stick of dynamite yelling, "I got a plan!". bottom line is, you gotta start somewhere, but you MUST START...dman

Would you rather that they make no effort at all? What is your plan?

The night curfew is something that makes sense, but only if it is nation-wide. It makes no gd sense to just have it in Baghdad.

I sure worked in Korea. Granted, it's not the solution to the insurgency but it will expose any "outsiders".

Closing the borders is a joke! Is there an imaginary doorway which is being used by the insurgents

That could be true, but by closing the borders you force the insurgents to use the "doorway" more frequently which could possibly indicate to the Iraqi's or the U.S. where it is.

One step at a time, just like we started out when we were kids, one step at a time.

I already have stated what had to happen there for over 3 years now to control that country but it's basically too late now, since we have installed a shia theocracy into government..

Your horsesh*t commentary offers nothing but the same Bush bullsh*t that most people stopped passing along long ago. The only POSSIBLE way to control that sh*thole is to start the draft and get 500,000 troops there.
I'm for that, are you? Otherwise get the hell out of there!

Anything else is just more sacrificing of American lives.

And BTW hero, I did my time.

I am not for Bush. I'm against being over there. My first post on here is the onyl reason I could think of anyone being against it. Sure its probally going to fail and won't accomplish much at all but for christ's sake it is a step forward to getting those boys the hell home.
