Default NFL Network: Path to the Draft

The new show on NFL Network 'Path to the Draft' appears to be pretty decent.

Good enough to get my daily fix.

Mike Mayock is a decent draft analyst.

Mayock was the head of the Cutler fan club well before the draft last year.

I like the show. I think it's much more substantive than anything on ESPN. Mel Kiper is full of it as far as I'm concerned.

I will just enjoy having a show dedicated to the draft.

I think they said there will be 50+ different episodes leading up to the draft.

Highlights of middle/lower tier prospects would have been nice.

Everyone has seen JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn. Show highlight packages of the top 10-15 players at each position.

Luckily, I record a lot of college games during the season so I can review them for draft prospects.

They think Lorenzo Booker from FSU will be an impact player in the NFL. I've been reading some differing opinions on him...he's pretty small for an every down back but I'd like to see his combine workouts. The dude won the strongest FSU player award with a 375 pound BP, 475 pound squat and (I think) 380 power clean...at 190 pounds. If we trade Tatum maybe he's an option in the 3rd round. I'd still rather have a bigger back though...maybe Bush.

I watched that show last night. That was a little spooky seeing Lynch get stuffed at the line by a DB when he was trying to pick up a yard. Bush does seem like a better target for the Broncos. Or Leonard.

Default Lynch going to run a 4.3 40?

What about Lynch stating he is shooting for a low 4.3 40? WOW! If he does this @ 225 lbs. he will not be available past the top 10. That is stout!

Peterson to the Browns and Lynch to the Texans.

Thoughts?

I'm leery of Lynch because up till this last year he was splitting time with Justin Forsett, who goes about 180 soaking wet. Forsett got 999 yards in 2005, and I watched him in high school because my daughter went to school with him and he's a terrific back but I don't see him being a high pick in the NFL. If Lynch couldn't beat himi out cleanlly as a junior, how good is he?

I also think he's closer to 215 than 225.

That's just so darn small to be an everyday back. CU has a back that is very similar in size and strength to Booker in Hugh Charles. From the CU website

He was born January 7, 1986 in Tulsa, Okla. Hobbies include fishing, skiing, hanging out with friends and wakeboarding. He also enjoys flying planes; he earned his solo license in a Cessna 172 as a sophomore in high school. One of the team’s speedsters, as he clocked a 4.35 time in the 40-yard dash at a NIKE camp and has maintained that Colorado (4.37); he is one of the most dedicated at training, as he also owns impressive bests in the bench press (405), squat (510), power clean (325), standing long jump (10-6) and vertical jump (41”).

TRACK—Though he has competed minimally, his personal bests in the long jump both indoors and outdoors are topped by only one other performer in school history: Kingsley Adams owns the top four indoor and the top five outdoor marks, all set between 1973-75. He lettered in indoor track as a freshman, as he finished eighth in the long jump at Big 12 Indoor Championships with a 23-10 1/4 effort. He qualified provisionally for the NCAA Championships at Washington’s Husky Classic with a jump of 24-5 1/2 (placing third in the meet), and won the Air Force Classic with a 24-5 effort (he wound up not making it into the NCAA’s); his personal indoor best is 25-3 3/4. Also at Air Force, he ran a collegiate best 6.88 in the 60-meter dash in finishing second. As a sophomore, he competed both indoors and outdoors, but did not letter (team policy requires scoring at the league meet to earn one); once again, he qualified provisionally for the NCAA Indoor at the Husky Classic (24-6 1/4) but did not advance to the national meet. He jumped 23-8 at the Big 12 Indoor meet. Outdoors, he posted a personal best of 24-5 in CU’s Potts Invitational, which he did one day after the fourth football practice of the spring.

With all that, I don't see Charles being much of a pro.

The thing about Kiper is that as we get closer to the drafts, his mocks become much more accurate because he has a much better pulse on team's feelings than most the others because teams have known him forever and seem to trust him. As of now, he's not worth that much because he hasn't gathered as many quality opinions as he will closer to the draft.

I think that's why he isn't as cool as people think he is. He really just talks to other scouts and GM's and then barfs back what he's hearing. I'm totally convinced some GM's directly use him to manipulate things in their favor too. He's too focused on the big schools and big names and has a hard time looking at a prospect from a smaller school objectively.

But he has more access to those scouts and GMs than most of the other "draft analysts" because ESPN is the big hammer and he has developed those relationships over the years. I also think you are wrong about him looking at players from small schools. He was on Marshall, Kuper and Daniel Manning before anyone last year. He also had Tarvaris Jackson, Bruce Gradkowski, Greg Jennings, Paul McQuistan and several other less visible school players high on his lists. He is arogant as hell, but his track record is better than any of the others.

Well, that's one play. Watching Cal this year, Lynch punks suckers coming at him and is extremely hard to bring down.

Quick update on Charles, not that it pertains to this years draft, but CU recently did there "max" week and Charles, all 5-9 of him put up some incredible numbers.
Bench 420
Power Clean 372
Squat 635

Unreal numbers for someone of that stature.
