Scotch, Brandy, Grains, Sake, etc? What do you like?
Personally I always keep a bottle of Gentleman Jack and Highland Park Scotch (12 or 18 year). |

This Christmas I discovered Woodford Reserve. It's a really good, smooth bourbon that won't cost you and arm and a leg. Costs about $35 a bottle.

My type of thread. I dont get to much into expensive bourbons/wiskeys I started out mostly drinking Gentleman Jack and Crown and after a bit they got to sweet (and expensive) for me. Makers Mark and Jack are 2 of the middle ground that I like but a bottle in the mid 30's I will get Bullett Bourbon everytime (even though that means a trip way out of the way to find the stores that carry it) it is very smooth. I have tried Woodford Reserve before it was good but for a half gallon it is out of my price range. The cheaper stuff (20-25 range) the best to me is Old Forester, then Ezra Brooks, and Jim Beam. Dont touch Scotch tried it before and it just wasnt my drink.
Edit - Misspelling it is Bulleit Bourbon. Last edited by Arkansas Bronco; 02-16-2007 at 09:44 PM.. |

Balviehnie Port is tops on my list, but I generally only buy one/two per year.
I like Glenfidish and then stepping into the blended scotches I only do Pinch! otherwise the only bourbon I stock at the house would be VO ond Jack for my Redneck visitors! |

CBF's shotglass is a 12oz-er! That's the morning shot glass, the afternoon and evening is a 16 oz-er!

buffalo trace has a different bite to it as you shoot it. Goes down smooth but whoa a after taste is powerful. It is great i do tend to stick to Jack, Jim, and Canadian Club (mostly mixed with cokes and not shoot). Crown I save for special things. Brought Bulleit this week though enjoy it also. I found bourbon tends not to leave me with nasty hangovers like the clear alochols do rum, vodka, and even wine. Woodford reserve didn't really buy me over for the price though perfer Buffalo Trace over woodford. Gentleman Jack is good and Single barrel Jack sneaks up on ya.

I drink a lot of whiskey. I don't eat much junk food. I drink rot gut. The burn in the tummy followed up by the numbingly warm feeling in the shoulders is what keeps me coming back. Aside from the fact that the molecules in the whiskey kill my feeble brain cells, and replace them with *brilliance...new science has shown that it's good for your liver.
My whiskey of choice is John Powers & Son Gold Label. But I'm not snooty. I'll drink pretty much anything whiskey. And I say that with only mere half ounce of shame. *See pretty much every post I've ever made on the orangemane. |

I have found that the Clear liquor catches up to me b/c I don't feel it until it is toooooo late and find myself hugging the tiolet. I tend to stick with the brown stuff.

Ahh
Scotch-Laphroaig, 15 or 18 yr. Whiskey-Crown Royal Bourbon-Maker's Mark But Laphroaig is the only scotch I'll drink. It's a single malt Islay, heavy on peat and smoke. It's awesome, not like that Johnny Walker swill. |

I enjoy a drop of Penderyn.
Dalwhinnie single malt is a favourite too. Jack Daniels is another that always goes down well. |

I worked in the Liquor industry years ago. There are all sorts of new brands since then and many brands have changed importers/distributors. You would be shocked to see how many brands come out of the same distillery and the same barrell stock. There is an incredible amount of money that goes into branding and advertising to make you think there is a difference, when there really isn't.

Jim Beam Black is good, not regular Jim Beam but the black. I also like VO Gold, Woodfood Reserve, and Maker's Mark. But, in a pinch, plain old Gentleman Jack Daniels will do.
I almost never drink beer anymore. Whiskey and the occasional rum drink are about it for me. |
