BAHAAAAA! Move over TO...This dude's honesty is exceeded only by his stupidity. I can't decide whether it's disgusting or exhilerating to hear one of these millionaire gold brickers actually come clean on how they feel about things. Which is funnier, his comment or the "apology" his agent crafted?
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2756552 Thomas slammed after saying contest about money Associated Press CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls fined forward Tyrus Thomas $10,000 on Tuesday, one day after the rookie said he only was interested in the prize money at the NBA's slam dunk contest. He later apologized "for any negative feelings that may have been caused by my comments." The first Bulls player since Scottie Pippen in 1990 to participate in the event, Thomas was quoted in Tuesday's editions of the Chicago Tribune as saying: "I'm just going to go out there, get my check and call it a day." When asked if being around some of the game's greats could be beneficial for a rookie, he responded, "I'm just into the free money. That's it. I'll just do whatever when I get out there." The winner of the Feb. 17 event in Las Vegas gets $35,000. The runner-up earns $22,500, with the third and fourth-place finishers getting $16,125. Joining Thomas are defending champion Nate Robinson of New York, Orlando All-Star Dwight Howard and Boston's Gerald Green. "This fine is an appropriate response to the remarks Tyrus made concerning his participation in the slam dunk contest," Bulls executive vice president of basketball operations John Paxson said in a statement. "It is a poor reflection on Tyrus individually and a poor reflection on the Bulls organization, and I am certainly disappointed." Thomas apologized in a statement issued through his agents Tuesday night. "I truly feel honored to be invited to participate in this year's slam dunk contest during next week's NBA All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas," Thomas said. "The opportunity to represent the Bulls and the city of Chicago on a global stage is a privilege that I do not take lightly. I regret the extent to which my comments indicate otherwise." Thomas has appeared in 41 games, averaging 3.5 points and 2.7 rebounds. |

In all seriousness, does anyone give a flabby rat's ass about the dunk contest anymore? It's been reduced to Chris Anderson and Nate Robinson needing 15 trys to get a dunk right.
Long gone are the days when Michael Jordan & Dominique Wilkins made the event something people looked forward to. |

As was mentioned in another thread, HORSE would be so much more entertaining.

Last time I caught one minute of B-ball was when Magic and Bird were playing. Haven't bothered with it since.

True...nobody cares...except maybe the advertisers...and given that this guy is considered a potential future star, how much money did he cost himself down the line with this comment?
I just think it's hillarious he'd actually say this even though he's thinking it. ![]() |

He should fight the fine. I bet the players union will have something to say about it.
He shouldn't have said it, but $10K? He shouldn't have been fined anything for it. Last edited by Jason in LA; 02-07-2007 at 04:38 PM.. |

There have been a few good dunk contests over the past 10 years, but more times then not it sucks. The greatest dunk contest ever was the year Vince Carter won it, but not a whole lot of people were watching the dunk contest then. That contest was way better than anything that Jordan and Dominique did. I'd say that what VC did that year was better than anything I've ever seen. He beat out T-Mac, who would have won it just about any year with the sick dunks he was doing. And then you had Steve Francis throwing the ball from half court, chasing it down and dunking with ease. When VC did the 360(the other way around) windmill dunk I fell out of my seat. Then he caught the lob and went between his legs. He was asked about it and he said that he had never done that dunk in his life. To finish it off he went from the free throw line with 2 hands. It was just crazy what he did that night. I know we all have our memories of Jordan and Dominique, but they would have gotten smashed the night VC, T-Mac, and Francis lit it up. |

I didn't know who this guy was until I heard the story on the radio on the drive home last night. They will apparently let anyone in this contest. I have never been to a B-ball game but I just paid big bucks to score on the glass tix for Disney on ICE! WOOOO HOOO! |
