Jake Plummer to the Bears... - The Orange Mane

Bears look like they are .5 of a QB away from winning the SB. You think they'd be interested in aquiring Jake Plummer possibly for some picks?

I honestly wouldn't want to trade Plummer for some picks because I think he is more valuable than that. Although I know he is a tough competitor and he will ask to be traded if he can't start.

They were the only team that had interest in him when the Broncos signed him, so maybe. Plummer, Griese, or Rexy?

I think there would be some interest in Jake after Grossman's turdfest.

He had at least 6 horrible plays. Hard to believe he was 20-28 and didn't throw the picks till the 4th.

For the 532,653,896,457,253,755th time, the Broncos will not trade Jake Plummer. Cap hit is too big. This isnt the NBA, NHL, or MLB.

Plummer isnt the answer for Da`Bears ........ who ever the Bears OC is should be fired , Rex Grossman should be arrested for impersonating a NFL QB , but the Bears have some serious coaching questions

Wrong. There is the cap hit regardless...it's just if the signing bonus is all in one year or the majority next year. He will be released or traded. It doesn't cost any salary. Your comment about how this isn't baseball or the NBA is odd because contracts ARE guaranteed in those leagues. Teams often have to eat salary. In the NFL, they are locked in the SB.

I'm not sure why the cap hit would be 8.8 in a trade and 8.0 in a release, but it's basically the same amount...you can just absorb the majority of it next year.

They might just release him since the cap goes up again in 08...it would depend on which, if any offers we would get. One thing for sure, he won't be here.

If it's close to the same hit if he's traded or cut, I'd rather trade and get some return value. You have to consider that if you do cut him, you get nada.

We would get some cap space with a release this year...I think it's a 50/50 proposition. It will depend on what if any offers we get and their value.

and that pushes about $6M in dead money into '08.

I'd rather take the entire hit this year.

Considerably less this year. There will be a good chunk of dead money next year if they go that route.

I'd rather just take the hit this year and be done with it.

and since we've now moved into the "June 1 cut" realm, you can designate 2 players as post-June 1 cuts each year, not 1 like we all assumed.

One consideration in how to handle Plummer's departure will be if we need cap money to sign a big name player this off season.

I would rather move some salary into SB to a player that will be with us for awhile. There are other ways to make cap room ...maybe Javon or someone else...I hate to do it with Rod, his salary is too high now as it is. I don't know what Jay's salary is next year, a few dollars might be able to be moved there...dunno.

I would rather just get Jake off the books but again, if we don't get a decent offer, like at least a 4, then you can still release him and divide the hit. I don't see why the Bears wouldn't be interested. I'm sure Griese will be a FA, and Grossman was simply horrible in not only some throws, but his decision making.

Are you sure about that? It's been my understanding that the dead money is split in half, with this year and next year being the exact same amount.

I think it's the pro rated amount of 2m this year, then the balance of 6 next if they go that route.

Year 1 is always that's year chunk of the amortized bonus money, Year 2 is always whatever is left.

Ex: 5-year deal, $10M in signing bonus, so $2M per year against the cap. Cut in year 3 after June 1 means a $2M hit that season and the reamining $4M is all the next season.

Jake is like a $2.8M/$5.6M breakdown.
