ok this last trip , I got lost 4 or 5 times and in a 18 wheeler this can be a a huge problem ,calling these places and getting directions from people that really dont know the area ,is aggravating so i have decided to get a GPS system , my wife found one that will hook into the USB port on my lap top , are those any good ?

I use one with Delorme Street Atlas and it works pretty good. It has voice commands and detailed maps. I've heard that the Microsoft version is also really good.
The only problem is that it is still pretty awkward to try to use while driving compared to those dash mounted units. |

It really depends on your requirements.
I have the Garmin 60csx..which is a handheld. Great for hiking, snow-mobiling or anything like that. However it sucks for driving...even though it can do routing. If you are ONLY going to use it for driving...then I would go with a more dedicated system w/ voice prompts and the most detailed maps you can get. If you want to use it for a variety of activities than there are a number of different solutions including hybrid products like your wife found. |

Spider,
I've used this Garmin C330 Navigator and it works quite well for my needs. Runs about $300-400 bucks and has the entire U.S preloaded. Of course, it's only as good as it's last update, which was 2004 if I remember correctly. |

You still have to know which way is left and which way is right, Spider. Maybe you could write LEFT and RIGHT in permanent magic marker on your hands?
