Default Carr available for a third?

According to a local newspaper that seems to be the case. Kind of sets the market for Plummer as well IMO, and if Carr is traded Houston becomes the #1 candidate for Plummer to end up.

Oakland and any other place needing a QB would be foolish not to offer a conditional fourth rounder for him.

----------------------------------------------

The Houston Chronicle reports the general feeling around the Senior Bowl was that David Carr can be had in exchange for a third-round pick.

The Chronicle cautions that it's too early to tell if the talk is legitimate, but multiple sources were aware of the Texans' supposed asking price in Mobile. One personnel official said Houston won't get a third-rounder for Carr, and a conditional fourth-round pick would be more realistic.

Interesting. Makes you wonder if Houston might be looking to move up for a QB in the draft. They could get Plummer, but he's nothing more than a stopgap at this point.

I think Jake's value would higher than Carr's. Jake has proven he can win, has and extra year on his contract and is slight cheaper.

Carr's $
2007 5250000.00
2008 6000000.00

Jake's
2007 5300000.00
2008 4800000.00
2009 5800000.00

They have the #1 pick. Why would they need Carr when they can draft JaMarcus Russell? And why would Kubiak dump the starting QB for a 3rd round draft choice just so he could bring in a guy who had the horrendous year Jake had last year.

Is Jake an improvement over Carr? No. Houston's best bed is to continue to build an offensive line that can keep Carr on his feet.

Jake's proven he can win with an offensive system that let's him roll outside the pocket and that he can't hanlde a full playbook. Why would anyone that doesn't employ that system, that is unique to Denver...want him enought o trade for him after the year he just had...especially since we're going to have to cut him anyway?

Both Jake and Carr have to burn their contracts. I would love to do a Jake for Carr swap, but we would have to redo contracts obviously. The point is, while Jake will contest for the starters job, Carr would be a backup barring injury. The problem has been that Carr has spent more time on his back than Paris Hilton.

What a coup if we could pull that one off. Carr won't want to give up starter status so it's an opium dream.

You may have guessed it. Kubiak lets Carr leave. Grabs a young qb or 2 through the draft. Trades for Plummer. Then Plummer gets to have 1-2 more years as a starter to try and prove people wrong agian. Kubiak gets a qb he prob feels he can win more games then he loses. And the Texan fans get a young qb in the draft to call for when Plummer doesn't play well. Everyone will be happy. DONT MESS WITH TEXAS!!!!!!!!!

Well Kubiak would be the one coach I think who feels he could win with Plummer. Kubiak doesn't see him though as a franchise qb. Kubiak may feel though Plummer would be good for 1-2 years while he grooms this years draft pick.

The only reason I think Kubes would go after Plummer is that as a new coach he has to prove himself quickly. Knowing that plummer can run a 1/10 of the playbook pretty well, he could stick him in there and do decent enough to buy him enough time to find a replacement.

What would be funny is if Houston signs Lelie than trades for Plummer.

Not taking Young (or even Bush) with the first pick will haunt this franchise for years.

I was going to suggest a trade of Plummer for Carr, until I saw those salary numbers. He would be a more than adequate backup.

Is there an actual, decent QB for Kubes to lust after this year? Frankly, I thought Carr was a pretty fair QB if they could have given him better protection. OTOH, Carr may want out in order to get over the anxiety tics he has developed over the years. Carr may just not be suited to the O schemes they tried. If he doesn't "work" in Texas, what makes you think he'd "work" in Denver?

It would be great if we could get Houston's 4th rounder for Plummer. Anything above that would be incredible.

Did everyone forget that Kyle Shanahan just got promoted to QB coach in Houston?

I think Plummer has had enough of the Shanny family and vice versa....

That's nonsense. He didn't have a full playbook when he threw for 4000+ yards and 27 TDs? You think Denver invented the QB rollout? There's lots of teams that put their QB on the move. He had a bad year and still went 7-4. He's a good leader and he teammates always liked playing with him. Just cause he's not John Elway doesn't mean he sucks. Teams trade for a guy if they're worried they won't land him as a free agent. There's also value to getting a guy learning your system in March rather than June.

ummm nooo

I gotta find that post again that showed all the QB's last year that went for mid to late round picks.

Plummer wont garner anything better than a 4th. In reality i doubt we get anything out of him, but if were offered something, i hope Shanny takes it.

Coaches invariably feel that they are the ones who can make a guy better. That is why Plummer will be a starter next year.
