Terrell Davis settles insurance lawsuit

Former Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis, in August, 2002. (Post / Ed Andrieski)Los Angeles - Former Denver Broncos star Terrell Davis has settled his lawsuit against an insurance company stemming from a scuffle at an Emmy Awards afterparty, his attorney said Thursday.

Davis sued Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance Co. in September for breach of contract over its refusal to defend him in a lawsuit related to a tussle at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

A judge dismissed Davis' suit against Liberty Mutual this week after both parties reached a settlement, said Davis' attorney, Kirk Pasich. He declined to discuss terms of the settlement.

A call to an attorney representing Liberty Mutual was not immediately returned.

Meanwhile, a hearing in Davis' lawsuit against the Roosevelt was scheduled for Feb. 5.

Davis claims he was roughed up by two bouncers during a party at the hotel's Tropicana Bar in October 2005. The 1998 Super Bowl MVP said he suffered a bruised neck and damage to a surgically repaired hip.

Davis also claimed he was mistreated because he's black, but a judge dismissed a racial discrimination claim.

Besides the hotel, the lawsuit names as defendants the bar's operator and one of the bouncers, who later countersued Davis alleging assault and battery. Davis' suit seeks unspecified damages.

Davis said he had asked Liberty Mutual to defend him in the countersuit but was denied, leading him to sue the insurance company.
