Default Lorenzo Booker???

I didn't watch much Florida State football this year, so I didn't have an eye on Booker. He seems to be impressing at the senior bowl.

He looks a lot like Portis on paper, around 195, can hit the line hard and make people miss downfield.

What do you think about this guy? Did anyone watch him play this year?
If we take D-line in the first, he could be a good option if we trade up in the second.

I can't imagine him going on the first day quite frankly. He is a smaller version of T Bell in my opinion.

Agree. We need an everydown, power back that will wear down opposing defenses so that we can reverse our 4th Qtr blues and let Tater do his thing as a change-of-pace back.

That being said, I'd much rather have Michael Bush and Tony Hunt in the draft or get Jamal Lewis or the like through FA on the cheap.

He is not like Tatum Bell. I would say he is slower but he is quicker, has more instincts and can make people miss.

I think he is a huge sleeper. He doesn't bring that toughness to the position that you want but he is part of a new type of hybrid HB/Scat Back who will pick you up about 50yds rushing, 50 yds receiving. He is deceptively quick and a guy that I thought caught the ball very naturally and could set up his blocks very well.

He would have very good value for us around the 5th round if he is still there.

Booker is a backup type RB who can be effective with 5-10 carries a game. Anymore than that, and he won't.

Look what his old running-mate is doing in NY...

I would say they are at least comparable in skillset.

I agree. And if he is a backup, he is a talented one that can take Tatum Bell's place. Couldn't be worse than some of the other 5th rounders we've drafted recently.

He's really not that small. He plays smaller (quick, elusive, catches the ball) but it's not like he's another Quentin Griffin. I like him.

Love to add him on the second day, especially if we can move Tatum for a 3rd rounder and add a bigger back like Hunt or Leonard to vie with Mike Bell for the every down work.

I too was impressed with Bookers performance in the senior bowl. Also appears to have some potential on ST as returned a couple of kicks.

Another late round option would be this unkown kid from Central Conn. State (Div.II).
I caught his play at either the Shrine Bowl or Hula bowl. His name was Justices Hairston. Wow this kid was impressive!! He has great size, quick feet, and was punishing people at the end of his runs. The announcers kept talking about how impressive he was all week. It came to a point were I was hoping that he would not get handed the ball anymore to keep him an unknown. Crazy rushing stats this past season. Perfect late round gem (ala- TD)! Did anyone else catch the play of this kid?!!!!

He had 1,847 on the ground last year...don't know anything else about him though.

Booker would make a good 3rd down back, but that's about it. Too small to be a 20-25 carry guy and have a long career.

Tough to say. There have been many players who have defied the odds of what you are talking about... Willie Parker and Tike Barber just to name a couple right off the bat. I think he compares much like Warrick Dunn.

I wish they would have used Booker more in the senior bowl but to be honest, with how terribly that line was put together, there was going to be no way any player on offense was going to shine... QB's, HB, or WR's.

Ya I agree. I think we need to get away from these type backs personally.

Of course, the Giants used Jacobs for their short yardage situations and Parker has about 20 pounds on Booker. I'd rather keep Tatum than replace him with a smaller RB in Booker.

Yeah, Booker was used to that running behind FSU's OL the last two years though!

I want to see what he does in an offense where he can play HB/SE Slot WR like Bush did in NO's this year. Booker is awesome in space and on swing passes against LB's or Safeties. He may also have some decent KR/PR value as well getting him about 15-20 touches overall per game would be a good thing for an NFL team.

Tatum is only 200 to 205 pounds so not that much different except that Booker has good hands.

and instincts... and vision... and can read his blocks... and he probably won't juke himself onto the ground without being touched.

Guys I hate to tell you this... Tatum really isn't that good and even a moderate producer in college like Booker has a chance to do better in this system.
