Newsweek article about Duke player - The Orange Mane

The 15 Jan 07 edition of Newsweek had an article about one Duke Lacross player who was accused of the rape in the frat house last year. I always try not to post long articles you all can easily paraphrase and post so i'll do that now.

Basically they still won't discuss details of the case but he of course proclaims his innocence. This kid is a strident voluteer, devoting time coaching peewee football and spending time with kids at local schools, he finished school from home because of the stigma after Nifong (SP) ruined the whole team's reputations based on ZERO hard evidence. The re-elected DA as we all know recently dropped the rape charge and is trying to "better deal" these kids with a lesser charge that he could prove with circumstancial evidence like oh I dunno the simple fact that they were there at the same time. The kid in the article however has phone records to prove that during the time of the "rape" he was talking to his girlfriend. These kids had thier senior year of collage ruined by a stuffed shirt who needed a last minute prayer to ensure re-election. He may have been on the way to being elected again I don't know, but I am quite sure that this played heavily into it. At the end of this the fact remains if they were really so certain the kids were guilty they'd already be on trial and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

If the charges are true and this girl was abused or raped than the accused deserve every year they get but I cannot imagine why such a sure fire case the DA had suddenly evaporated. Oh yeah now I remember the accuser changed her story again and again. Well thats more consistant than the accused repeatedly stating thier innocence isin't it?

The rape charges have been dropped. They are still charging the kids with kidnapping and alll other kinds of garbage

I posted that "The re-elected DA as we all know recently dropped the rape charge" in my opening statment. All I am saying is this is a snowball Niffong started to get re-elected and it has ruined these kids and now he can only do so much damage control.
