Default Rank our needs

I think we have got to upgrade and 2 positions badly.

Running Back and Safety.

Another pass rushing DE would be great, but with our new coordinator known for getting DEs big stats, do we really need to upgrade there more than RB, a position which killed us in huge situations this past season?

We need an impact DT. Brown is finished and I don't trust Warren to return to form...

Running back- This spot had it's moments this past year but overall it was a dissapointment. Tinker Bell dropped the ball too many times and broke big runs too few. Mike Bell is promising but needs some help. He did show a decent knack for finding the endzone.

Defensive End- This weakness is so obvious it's painfull. You can't let Berry/Hayward/Pryce all walk and not use high draft picks to fill them and expect it to work out. Be it a FA or a draft pick a defensive end with some size is a must.

Defensive tackle- Warren may have been injured. If not he needs a fire lit under his arse. He also needs a friend. Meyers would be great as a 3rd d tackle but Broncos need a blue chipper.

Free Saftey- I wanted to put an oline position here but couldn't do it considering Lynch could be near the end. Ferguson just to slow and Brandon a ? coming off an injury. Broncos need to get a saftey with some size and speed to roam the middle for years to come. Ed Reed why did we not draft you?

Kick returner- Hopefully a punt returner with some mad skills ala Darrian Gorden/Rick Upchurch

We need a very disruptive D-lineman, or 2.

gotta disagree with the order

1. DT/DE

2. S

3. OL, specificallly RT and LT if Lepsis isn't healed up

4. RB - I'd still give Mike Bell a shot first though

5. WR3 - yeah I said it, if Marshall is the #2 next year. Rod Smith can not be our WR3. It is a known fact that the WR3/slot WR will be a burner. I love Rod, but he can't be that role. The only thing I can see is that when Rod comes in, Javon or Brandon move over to slot. But that means they have to learn extra plays at a different position.

My biggest thing with going DL first is that we are asking the defense to win games. I want the offense to win games. You don't need a great DE when you are scoring in the high 20s and low 30s week in week out...

Was Alfred Williams, Neil Smith, Traylor, and Tanuvasa that good? I loved those guys, and noone here remembers Traylors huge plays more than me in those SBs...but are they that much better than what we have now?

I think we have got to get that blockbuster RB to take the pressure off of Cutler and the Tackles. This does so many things that help out the defense more than a pass rushing DE.

1. Move the chains.
1a. Eats clock giving the defense a rest, while exhausting opposition.

2. Leads to more points which forces the other offense to go one dimensional and puts the pressure on the other team to make plays.

Our last run in 98 had a defense that was very stout against the run.

But why?

Because we were outscoring the opponents and forcing them to abandon the gameplan and throw like crazy. That defense gave up quite a bit of passing yards, but that also led to lots more interceptions.

My thought is that we addressed the primary offensive problems last year via the acquisition of players like Cutler, Walker, Marshall and Scheffler. We still do need a bona fide starter at RB or we'll end up doing the RBBC thing again.

As I recall the defense back in the SB years, they also did the bend-but-don't-break routine... however, the offense was high-powered enough that we consistently had a commanding lead by halftime. It wasn't unusual to see Derek Loville or Vaughn Hebron in the game and TD on the bench by the end of the 3rd quarter. But yeah, the offense usually had the other team so far behind on the scoreboard that they were forced to abandon the run and go strictly to the air, effectively making their offense one-dimensional... and yes, that did take a great deal of pressure off our own defense.

The D-line is obvious, but everyone thinks pass rush, and I'm betting that with Bates in there, Dumervil gets double digit sacks and Lang sits at 8-plus. But we need an everydown guy who can hold the line as well as collapse the pocket and then let Dumervil rotate in on obvious passing downs.

I'm betting Shanahan pulls the trigger on a RB early. He liked some first rounders last year and considered it, but gave Tatum another year. And Tatum didn't produce.

Either safety or corner has to be a high priority. Foxworth was forced to move over to safety at one point because of injuries (and Brandon is injury-prone) and then 27.

Wow, I'm the only one who thinks we need a RT? Is everyone sold on Pears playing that spot? Surely no one has any faith left in Foster?

I'd go with D-line O-line and safety. We need starters on the D-line, O-line need depth and a better strong tackle. Safety we need speed. But I think Denvers a superbowl team with a high level d-line.
