Default My First Mock

This is my first mock of 2007. Hopefully it doesn't suck.

1.Oakland Raiders - Brady Quinn-QB-Notre Dame
I struggled over this pick because everyone knows how Crazy Al loves athletic freaks like Calvin Johnson, but in the end i think the arm of Quinn outweighs the hands of Johnson. (At least to the Raiders)

2.Detroit Lions - Joe Thomas-OT-Wisconsin

This is a no brainer to me and probably anyone reading this. Unless your name is Matt Millen, who will probably have to be put in a straight jacket to avoid picking Calvin Johnson.

3.Cleveland Browns - Alan Branch-DT-Michigan
Branch is a defensive playmaker who can play either NT or 3-4 DE. Romeo Crennel is a defense first kind of guy. Connect the dots.

4.Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Calvin Johnson-WR-Georgia Tech
If ever the #4 pick in the draft could be called a steal here it is. Calvin Johnson is 6"5 and reportedly runs a 4.3 forty with a 40 inch+ vertical. Wow.

5.Arizona Cardinals - LaRon Landry-S-LSU
If Sam Baker declares i think he goes here, but since i dont think he will they go with the best DB available to help out a horrible pass defense.

6.Washington Redskins - Gaines Adams-DE-Clemson
After shelling out the big bucks to free agent Andre Carter he racked up a grand total of 6 sacks. Yeah, that wont cut it so they bring in the best pass rusher in the draft.

7.Minnesota Vikings - Dwayne Jarrett-WR-USC

Despite Dwayne showing his lack of character against Michigan, he can catch the football. Which is something no current Viking receiver can do.

8.Houston Texans - Adrian Peterson-HB-Oklahoma
Houston makes their fans forget about Reggie and Vince, (Okay maybe not Vince), with this pick. Adrian Peterson is a big, fast, physical runner who's injury issues are the only thing preventing him from being a top 3 pick.

9.Miami Dolphins - Leon Hall-CB-Michigan

Miami needs corner help. Leon Hall may be able to provide that help. Miami could also go Safety with Reggie Nelson here.

10.Atlanta Falcons - Reggie Nelson-S-Florida

Lawyer Milloy is good but ageing and Chris Crocker isnt exactly stellar so Nelson is the clear pick. While 2 S' in the top 10 is rare i believe a combination of talent and need make it happen.

11.San Francisco 49ers - Darrelle Revis-CB-Pittsburgh

Shawntae Spencer and Walt Harris are good but beyond them there is noone special and Revis has the potential to be great.

12.Buffalo Bills - Lawrence Timmons-OLB-Florida State
Many of you are probably thinking Posluszny or Willis here but i think when all is said and done Timmons is the best fit for this defense.

13.St. Louis Rams - Paul Posluszny-OLB-Penn State
The ILB spot is taken care of with Witherspoon but the OLB is bare with Dexter Coakley whos well, old and Brandon Chillar whos well, bad starting Posluszny will be a big upgrade.

14.Carolina Panthers - Patrick Willis-ILB-Ole Miss
Losing WIll Witherspoon hurt this LB core. Patrick Willis is a premier ILB prospect and could play OLB if they need him to so he's the pick here.

15.Green Bay Packers - Marshawn Lynch-HB-California
Ahman Green is nearing 30 and has missed 13 games in 2 season. Marshawn Lynch is a very talented prospect with a good combination of speed, size and moves.

16.Pittsburgh Steelers - Justin Blalock-OG-Texas
Im working under the assumption that Big Ben's poor play had something to do with a lack of pass protection. If not the Steelers should start thinking about getting a new QB maybe one with some common sense. (Wear a helmet!)

17.Jacksonville Jaguars - JaMarcus Russell-QB-LSU
Byron appears to be on his way out and Garrard is not the answer, and i doubt the coaches are excited about Quinn Gray. JaMarcus (whos only thing in common with Culpepper is his size, hopefully), may be the guy.

18.Cincinnati Bengals - Quentin Moses-DE-Georgia
The Bengals could use some help with their pass rush. They could also use someone who goes to more games then cells. Hopefully for them Quentin Moses will fill both those needs.

19.Tennessee Titans - Ted Ginn Jr-WR-Ohio State

At QB the Titans have Young. At HB they have Travis Henry and Lendale White. At WR they have.... Drew Bennet. You see my point. Ted Ginn Jr. will provide a deep threat and playmaker to the Titans offense.

20.New York Giants - Marcus McCauley-CB-Fresno State

Im not a real big fan of McCauley's fundamentals. But when your 6'1 and can run a 4.3 (supposedly), who cares about fundamentals? Now if he runs anything more than a 4.39 expect to see his draft stock drop and drop and drop. That baffles me a bit but i guess thats today's NFL.

21.Denver Broncos - Amobi Okoye-DT-Louisville
Amobi Okoye is a 6'1 320 pound beast of a defensive tackle who with the selection of another speed rusher to go with Dumervil later on could give the Broncos an actual pass rush. What really interests me is that he is only 20 years old and hes played for 4 years. Which means he was playing against other college players at 16. If that doesnt scream potential i dont know what does. They could also go T here to replace George "The Revolving Door" Foster who just stands there like a fat idiot while the QB gets hurt. Sorry, still venting i guess.

22.New England Patriots(f/Seattle Seahawks) - Michael Griffin

Rodney Harrison is injured again and James Sanders isnt anything special so they take Griffin who could end up being one of the steals of the draft.

23.Dallas Cowboys - Levi Brown-OT-Penn State
Levi Brown is huge. I mean realllllly huge. And he has excellent agility for his size and feet that have been described as nimble on more than one occasion. Plus, hes huge. They just better hope he doesn't go the way of George Foster.... sorry again.

24.Kansas City Chiefs - Quinn Pitcock-DT-Ohio State

The Chiefs DTs arent any good. Thats not me being mean thats a well known fact. Quinn Pitcock played so well this past season that he boosted his stock to the point he could be well gone by now so he gets the nod.

25.New Orleans Saints - DeMarcus Tyler-DT-NC State
The Saints DTs are almost as bad as the Chief's. DeMarcus Tyler is almost as good as Quinn Pitcock. There you go.

26.New York Jets - Antoine Cason-CB-Arizona
There isn't one corner including Justin Miller that id feel comfortable starting on this whole roster. And they made the playoffs. Wow, imagine what they could do with some good corners.

27.Philadelphia Eagles - Aaron Ross-CB-Texas
I know, im crazy. A first rounder on a nickelback? But have you seen the Eagles depth chart? First of all im not that impressed with Sheldon Brown and behind him is Roderick Hood. Ugh.

28.New England Patriots - Craig Davis-WR-LSU
New England picked up some yound talent with the speedy Chad Jackson last year. Now they turn to an all around guy in Craig Davis. Davis may have some of the most solid hands in the draft and isnt slow so he gets the pick here.

29.Indianapolis Colts - Frank Okam-DT-Texas
Indianapolis has a horrible run defense. I mean, I could but a couple 300 pound dummies on the field and they would tackle better. Okam is a big run stopping DT. What happens if he stays? Glenn Dorsey from LSU. If he stays? Simple, the Colts are boned.

30.Baltimore Ravens - Troy Smith-QB-Ohio State
The Ravens might want to check with McNair before making this pick. There is always a chance of him going off and throwing a tantrum like he did with the Titans. Troy may be undersized but he has all the other tools and gives his all every play. Plus he doesnt choke like some other people. *cough*BradyQuinn*cough*

31.Chicago Bears - Greg Olsen-TE-Miami
There are some who say that TE isnt the problem. I agree. The fact that Brian Griese may be the best QB on the team is. But maybe this talented TE will persuade "Sexy Rexy" to check to the short routes instead of loading up and chucking it deep every play.

32.San Diego Chargers - Eric Weddle-S-Utah
If there is a weak link on the Chargers Defense it is the Safety position. Weddle is a playmaker pure and simple. He may not have the best measurables nor did he go to a big time school but when the ball is in the air or he is staring the running back in the eyes, none of that seems to matter to him. So why should it to any of us?

Nice job. Landry looks pretty high to me and I don't think Ross and Craig Davis are first rounders, plus I'd put Jamarcus a little higher, but overall a good mock. I love Okoye at 21.

Decent, too many DB's going in the first, I wouldn't mind trading back and selecting BUSH in the early 2nd.

JaMarcus Russell-QB-LSU

I think Oakland drafts this guy #1 come April.

I have to agree with Jamarcus Russel going #1 overall. Wow this guy is impressive. He clearly outplayed Brady Quinn. I watched Quinn play in several games this year and was not impressive at all.

As I said last night during the game:

My greatest fear is that the Raiders take Russell. Not scared of Quinn. with his slow setup and slow delivery, he will get stomped before the fade ever get an OL

god i dont want jamarcus to go to the raiders. hed probably be their best OLinemen too. he is such an Al Davis pick though, great measurables, throws it great on deep balls, etc. etc. It all makes sense. theres still the chance that he stays but its hard to stare down 60 million dollars when your uncle needs a heart transplant. hed be a good fit for cleveland and detroit as well. heck, hes a good fit anywhere although he doesnt roll out much so i guess not a zone blocking scheme.

as for the rest of your mock, maybe you mean dwayne bowe #80 not craig davis #3 to the pats. craig is more of a 3rd to 4th rounder, he can return punts and has pretty good size and speed. bowe is the bigger guy but he runs pretty good routes. both are pretty good but bowe translates into more of a NFL WR because of his size.

im not so sure about okoye, hes not that tall and i saw him looking dead tired in the orange bowl, literally stumbling after the QB. theres not much potential for his height and endurance. id rather have tank tyler, quinn pitcock, or glenn dorsey.

To be fair i did write this before the Sugar Bowl. Now, i think JaMarcus has probably passed Quinn on the Raiders draft board. I think Arizona could also go Gaines Adams. In which case just give the Redskins Leon Hall and the Dolphins Landry. It just seems like DB is a big need in this draft for alot of teams.
