Default Police issue APB in Williams murder case

Police have issued an APB for Colo. license plate 665 OBS. 9NEWS has learned the 1998 white Chevy Tahoe believed to be involved in the shooting death of Darrent Williams is registered to Brian Hicks. Hicks, 27, is currently in jail on attempted murder charges. The key witness, Lonnie Clark, in the case against Hicks was gunned down outside of her house December 6, days before she was to testify against him.

Un-freaking-thinkable. Was this really a shocker to anybody? What the hell kind of cops do they have in Denver? I know L.A. is light years ahead in witness protection.

Whenever there's a local crime of public interest, the talkshow of record is the Peter Boyles show on KHOW. This morning he's saying the cops know who the murderer is. He's a Crip with a long rap sheet who didn't target Darrent Williams in particular. He and his entourage were waiting in line to get into the club when the limo pulled up to the front. Darrent and his friends get out, and because it's their party, cut in line and go in. Supposedly the Crip (or one of his friends) yelled something at the group as they were going in about cutting in line, and one of Darrent's friends yells something back...perhaps "baiting" the gangbanger.

Once inside, the two confront each other again verbally. The Crip (and at least one of his friends) is kicked out of the club. They fume outside with revenge on their minds, apparently having no idea who Darrent Williams is or that he was a part of the group. I was saying yesterday to a co-worker that unlike basketball players, most football players aren't known by their faces due to wearing helmets. They wait and plan to "get them" when they leave. The party breaks up, they follow, and shoot.

Supposedly the murderer wakes up to find out who he killed, and splits for Las Vegas, and then goes to LA, where he's currently in hiding, covered by his gangland friends. This is obviously police speculation, based upon the SOP of gangbangers when the heat is on in Denver because "it's hard to hide in Denver if you're black" (compared to LA). The murderer is apparently not a kid, instead being a veteran gangbanger. The police have surveillance videotape and supposedly witnesses at the club have confirmed he's the guy.

The party was public. People got email invites, and it was advertised at Independent Records on Colfax. The email invite mentions Tatum Bell, DJ Williams, Darrent Williams (one other), JR Smith and Dermarr Johnson. Patty Calhoun, the editor of Westword, was reading from the email invitation, and said KMart was NOT mentioned anywhere. He WAS there, but left early without incident as he said.

Boyles gets this info from sources within the DPD which have given him information on other local crimes, and his info is as good as it gets. Not infallible, but ALWAYS ahead of the standard media and almost always correct.

if that is true, it is going to be really hard to find the guy.

Peter Boyles is a gossipy dick. He bleated like a goat for years about how Patsy Ramsey was going to be arrested for Jon Benet's murder just any second now.

It is also being reported that there has been a lot of police activity around Martin Luther King Blvd and Downing for the past 18 hours. I have no doubt in my mind that the police know who they are looking for.

Yeah they will catch them. These kind of low lifes don't have the brain power to pull off the perfect crime.

The fact the police aren't all over the news begging for leads is a good sign. I also think they are just crossing their t's and dotting their i's before an arrest or arrests are made.

Yeah, I bet DPD is seeing this as a big PR opportunity and won't take this lightly.
The fans want justice, and I hope to God we recieve it.
If not for us than for his family. I'm still in shock after 2 days

"Big PR opportunity"? Agree they're not taking this lightly - they're as much fans as we are - but they are not working this case for PR purposes.

I don't discount the possiblilty that he child was killed at all. The weirdo fiasco didn't work out for them. There was no forced entry, and the window was broken from the inside out. A clumsy kidnapping note was total crap. Why would someone leave a ransom note beside someone allready dead?

They never found a print of an intruder at all. And he went into her bedroom, kidnapped her drug her to the basement then escaped? Let's leave a weird kidnapping note and yet not call the police right away?

There were no footbrints to the window at all. So this supposed guy entered thru the front door, went up the stairs, kidnapped the kid and nothing was reported for hours?

This whole thing sounds as greased as that Aruba murder.

Sorry, I was commenting on Peter Boyles' credibility, not trying to get a Jon Benet discussion going.

You took it wrong, I mean that they know how many people really want to see this case get solved.

which part?

gang bangers usually don't give each other up and if he's in LA, hiding, I'm not sure they'll find him anytime soon

at least that is what the movie colors taught me

The chances of finding him do drop considerably, but it would still be more likely than not that he is caught.

It will be wiped stripped and crushed. The cops have nothing but a plate belonging from someone allready behind bars that had a wintess murdered.

south LA might as well be called the Sunni Triangle. We will never find that SUV.

You base this on what?

First, the owner wan't even driving, he was allready in jail for attempted murder and the witness was murdered.

Secon, there is no way to know where that SUV is, who was driving or who (or others) melted it with lead.

The chances of a conviction in this are about 1%

This guy or these guys are not going to be easy to catch. They already killed a witness a month ago and no arrests have been made. The car belongs to a guy in jail who didn't give up any info on the dead witness and won't give up any info on this one.
