I would think many on this board would welcome a change at Defensive Coordinator. Coyer is all used up, predictable zones, blitzes etc...
Who is out there? Who would you prefer? I for one would like to see Jim Mora Jr take over our Defense. He was nails in SF and he has long been considered one of the brightest young Defensive minds in the league. A new philosophy is needed. There has to be some up and coming hungry defensive coaches out there, not dinosaurs like larry c.... |

The Colts fans would gladly make a swap of Ron Meeks for Coyer....
Sure looked to me like the primary problem with the defense is the lack of talent on the Dline rather than the scheme. If you guys change DCs I think the odds of getting worse is much greater than the odds of improving. |

Jim Mora would be a good choice, though he may hold out for a year waiting for a HC job first. In any case, Coyer will not be hard to replace.

how about giving him a defensive line to work with? or a safety that can cover a guy more than 10 yards down field.

1 more chance......he should only get 1 more year with an emphasis on getting a real dline
if he can't improve his crappy play calling with a new dline, then he has to go |

It's still too early for me to even think about football. Everytime I think about football it all goes back to 27. Still shocking.

I've said it many times here: I think Coyer is an OK coordinator who needs more talent to work with on the DL.
HOWEVER: I think he's a little too much towards funtamentals and doesn't pay enough attention to schemes. He seems to be a basics first coach but today's NFL is too complex to rely exclusively on guts, speed and good tackling. His schemes are predictable. I would welcome a change. In an ideal world I'd say Jim Johnson but it'll never happen. |

I'm OK with Coyer, I'm in the 'he needs more horses up front' camp, but ,with that said, I'm not particularly gung-ho about him either. Sometimes a fresh approach helps, and I'd be happy to bring in someone like Mora Jr.

How many chances does he get? His defense gets torched regularly when he faces a good O or in a big game. He has worn out his welcome. Time for a change. I don't think we necessarily need a big name. I guarantee there are some gems in the SEC.

my biggest complaint w/ Coyer is that he does not adjust quick enough and he doesn't get creative scheme wise .... and as long as Shanny is the coach IMO Coyer will always have a job here

My big concern with Coyer in general, is that I don't like the fact that the Defense could not rally in the second half of the season, but also bear in mind that Injuries really killed us this year. I think management of the Defense isn't what it could of been, but I won't be heartbroken if Coyer doesn't leave this off season.

A little more emphasis on tackling and wrapping up, or fundamentals, would go a long way. |

I for one would like to see a change on the defensive coaching staff. I have never liked all that zone they run.

Keep Coyer and continue to seek some good and effective pass rushing defensive linemen and improve the special team play.
The defense had the burden of carrying this football team this past year due to the lack of production from the offense and special teams. I believe next year with Cutler the offense will be even more productive (see Cutler's four game performance) and we will again see better ball control and those long sustained scoring drives. |

Yep coyer can't be blamed for the personel hes givin and if you ask me not many DCs could have done what he did with the one he had. I like coyer sure i have ragged on him about some play calls but i think with the right personel he can put forehead boy on his a** 2 out of four plays and pick it off on the 3rd. |

I was talking to a friend today and he said he heard on (i think) espn that denver was talking about switching to a 3-4. It was reported by the x Oline player for us (can't remember name). If so, I think with Dumervil and the way Nate played we have the line backers, but need all new Dline and new D coach. Not sure if that would be better then just drafting/FA big DT/pass rushing DEs.

I agree on both counts, but I don't think Mora sits out a year... dude's a workaholic, I'd love to have him as our DC

I think Coyer would make a fine positions coach with his approach with proper technique, but he just isn't coordinator material. He lacks the ability to think on the fly and make adjustments as the game unfolds.
What we need is a guy who has a keen defensive mind. Shanny can handle the offense, but we need a guy he can rely on to run the defense and who can throw a little weight around in the war room to get some defensive players we can develop. I don't know if that guy even exists, but we need him. |
