Keep him.
He has done a fine job without a whole lot up front. We finished in the top 5-6 again in scoring defense. Almost every year he has been in charge, one of the three units on the defense has been scrubs, in 2003 it was the back four, the last few years its been the DL. Coyer is a very hard worker and did well this year. He has hidden our safeties lack of range the last few years very well, as well. Ofcourse I do not like how he petitioned hard to get Ian back, but other than that, I think he has done a very good job throughout his tenure here, especially without Brown and with a hurt Warren this year. Get him some horses up front.

Dump him.
He's kinda like Jake Plummer. He gets through a season and doesn't do too bad, In the post season he crumbles, I think we can find better out there. |

We never put pressure on the QB and that sickens me. Let's get someone in there who can call blitz more than a couple times a game...

Keep him.
The D-line was a junk yard of trash, no-bodys & cast-offs. Get a real pass rusher & all...well, a lot...will be better. |

He has an All-Pro Corner and Middle Linebacker, two fantasic outside linebackers, a Pro Bowl safety, a good #2 corner(I'm still on the Darrent Bandwagon)...and a bad to decent line(Dumervil and Lang were good this year, I don't care what you say).
With that kind of talent, there's no excuses. Ship him out. I hope we can get a genius to replace him with, though...Maybe Jack Del Rio will lose his job... ![]() |

A lot of the things that people want to blame Coyer for are really problems from the front office. For all we know Coyer is just as frustrated with some of the personnel decisions as we are. Remember he doesn't call the shots there.
I do think one critical area he needs to improve is getting better tackling our of our linebackers. They regularly have bounced off of defenders this year. If we just can't get the ones we have to improve we should go get new ones that can. |

Let's think about this. We hire Andre Patterson... a freaking POSITION coach, and that guy has invited every one of his buddies in for a job. We've got everyone but the ****ing waterboy from Cleveland playing on this team, now. So, how does that happen if our coaches are just figure-heads with no control over personnel moves? Clearly this Patterson guy has some clout. So, you're telling me that HIS BOSS has less say in personnel matters than he does? C'mon, man... our ENTIRE ****ing defensive line came from Cleveland. A lowly position coach managed to get the guys he wanted. Larry is supposed to be heading up that unit. He's ABOVE Patterson. Yet, he's got no say in personnel? Do they duct-tape his arms behind his back and throw him in a closet in the off-season? Something doesn't add up, there. |

Coyer is doing miracles with soap bubbles. I don't like our sponge defense anymore than anyone else here but there isn't a stock pile of defensive coaches who can work without three of their starting safeties and a defensive scheme that requires pressure from the front four and not having a real front four. Raiders figured out how to get a front four. If Crazy Al can do it I'm pretty sure Coyer can. Coyer's guidance is get it done with X dollars. Why? They didn't have any money. You don't draft a top flight QB without getting him some help. Plummer knew the leaky offensive line was a huge part of the problem and now pretty much everybody gets it now. I really hope we don't start the offense versus defense debate again. I think it's pretty obvious that if you cannot pressure the QB your offense is going to get teed off on. FYI: NOBODY is mentioning that our Special Teams let teams run half the field before stopping them. |

Watch those Pryce, Reggie and Berry in Denver uni's under Coyer... doing read fronts, covering the flat and rushing the passer in probably 1/3 of the obvious passing downs. Watch them with their new teams... letting them pin their ears back, using GOOD stunts and getting solid pressure. |

Tiger,
No one, and I mean NO ONE has championed the D-line around here as much as me. But, after four seasons and off-seasons... does Larry not garner a few questions at this point? Again, if it's all personnel.... doesn't he have a little to do with that? Greg Robinson certainly did. Shanahan all but gave Robinson the checkbook when he hired him in 1995. Even Elway was credited as influencing Shanahan with regards to the Neil Smith signing. How is it that or DC of four years is absolutely absent from the personnel decision making process? Then you've got questions like.... how does Trevor Pryce go from **** to sugar-cookies the minute he gets out of our system? That guy hasn't shown up on the radar in years, and now he's having a Pro Bowl season? I agree with you, man... we need a pass-rusher. Again, no one has said that more or longer than myself. But, at a certain point... I start asking questions about the guy who heads up the unit. |

Interesting you'd bring up the raiders and x amount of dollars Coyer has available. How much money do you think Oakland spends on their D? How much can they when they have: Big contract to Randy Moss Big contract to Jerry Porter Big contract to Robert Gallery Sizeable contract to Aaron Brooks Sizeable contract to Walter |

There's only one reason Coyer still has a job in Denver (and I hope beyond all hopes that changes Monday!), and his name is Champ Bailey. Without Bailey Coyer would've been exposed as retarded years ago... like he did back in the Herndon/Walls days.

I've said all along... it's just criminal to have Champ back there rotting away because we can't field a decent front 7.
What a travesty it'll be if we don't get that guy a ring. |
