Larry Allen - 2nd round 17th Pick
Olin Kreutz - 3rd round 3rd pick Alan Faneca - 1st round 28th pick Will Shields - 3rd round 18th pick Brian Waters - Undrafted Jeff Saturday - Undrafted Nick Hardwick - 3rd round 3rd pick Jonathan Ogden - 1st round 4th pick Walter Jones - 1st round 6th pick Jammal Brown - 1st round 13th pick Tarik Glenn - 1st round 19th pick Chris Samuels - 1st round 3rd pick Shawn Andrews - 1st round 16th pick Steve Hutchinson - 1st round 17th pick Matt Birk - 6th round 20th pick The average round that these pro bowl Olineman were picked is 2.7. The undrafted I calculated as round "8." We do NOT need to go for an Olineman first round. Foster has given everyone nightmares... Broncos Olineman Tom Nalen - 7th round 24th pick Ben Hamilton - 4th round 18th pick Cooper Carlisle - 4th round 18th pick Adam Meadows - 2nd round 18th pick Erik Pears - Undrafted Matt Lepsis - Undrafted Last edited by The MVPlaya; 01-01-2007 at 01:13 AM.. |

Foster did not work out. Doesn't mean that a prospect doesn't exist in the 1st.

As bad as everybody hates Foster, IMO at least we should do DLine in the first no matter what.
We do need OLine help, but we need a DLine guy first. |

Well that depends on who's in the draft and how it unfolds. You gotta take the player most likely to help your team immediately, even if he's an OL, Safety or WR. But yeah our offseason/draft needs start with DL, OL, and RB.

Wait, so... it looks to me like HALF of the best linemen in the league were picked in the first round? How does that not make the case for drafting one early, again?
That makes as much sense as the "don't pay anyone" crowd, who insists that we should only pull off the scrap heap and ignore top tier players. Meanwhile, or team's two most productive players are the two highest paid. |

Yeah, and the other 50% is NOT in the 1st round...how does that not make a case of not taking an olineman in the 1st round?
That was an ignorant statement you made. |

I'm all for drafting an Olineman with the first pick but I don't think any Olineman worth while will be there at 21. It's a much deeper draft for defensive lineman.

Teams that ignore their Offensive line always suck, but every year there is plenty of late round value.

Perhaps we should settle for best O-lineman or d-lineman available at our slot on the board w/ our 1st pick.

Undoubtedly, we screwed the pooch Draftwise in 2003, but its not like many teams cleaned up. It was not a great draft overall, the first round had a high percentage of outright busts and it was a particularly awful year for tackles.
George Foster - 1/20 is certainly a bust at this point. Kwame Harris 1/26 is a barely marginal starter. Jonathan Stinchcomb 2/37 finally worked his way into the starting lineup for New Orleans this year. Wayne Hunter 3/73 has never started an NFL game and he's this close to washing out of the League. Seth Wand 3/75, started for one year for the historically bad Texans O line. Wade Smith 3/78, started as a rookie for the O line starved Dolphins and washed out of the League. Even Jordan Gross 1/10, the 10th overall pick that year, hasn't really lived up to expectations. He's been solid at right tackle, but he flopped badly when the Panthers put him at left tackle in 2005. That covers all seven OTs selected in the first three rounds in 2003, and except for Gross, who's a better than average RT, the rest of them all suck dogballs, almost half are out of the League already. Take a look at the whole Draft. http://www.drafthistory.com/years/2003.html Pretty weak from top to bottom. Last edited by -Slap-; 01-01-2007 at 03:04 AM.. |
