It's well documented that Shanny says Mike Bell has the best cutting ability on the team. Tatum has had 3 years to prove something. He's done that. He's proved he is injury prone, can't cut, misses almost all the cutback lanes, can't break tackles......and now, he's dropping the rock.
He's not gonna cut it here.......no pun there For those who like the kid, sorry, but I guarantee he is done after this season. |

Experiment over, move on.
I'm okay with Mike Bell being the featured back moving into the playoffs. |

We've tried to fit a round peg into a square hole with Tatum, but it's time we called a spade a spade here and admitted that he's far more valuble as a 5-10 carry, change of pace, RB.
There was no ground game in the first half Sunday, and as soon as Mike came in the ground game woke up. After Mike made the defense honest by cutting back things loosened up and Tatum had his only positive runs of the day. Tatum needs to be a spot back. |

Depends whats his cap figure next year? I certainly dont think he "cuts" it but I would not ride him out of town just yet. Prolly depends on cost vs depth.

I think we still have him under his 1st contract for next season... Which means his figure should still be pretty low

Tatum doesn't cost much at all. He doesn't have some big roster bonus to my knowledge and he's allready cashed his SB anyway. He will get over 1000 next sunday. People have a short memory that don't remember him carrying Ray Ray for a critical first down.

Get him his 1000 yards and his trade value will be decent. Shop him around and see what we can get for him. If it is more than 2 chips and a doughnut, do it.

I think Tatum is trade bait as well. Someone will love his speed, and overlook that he can't stay healthy as a starter or wear down a defense, or run when teams know the run is coming.

Leave Tatum alone, he will be our next 1000 yd back and help us a great deal in the playoffs, if he is healthy he is going to surprise many come January. Yeah he's fumbled the last two weeks but he will atone for those sins in the playoffs, trust me.

I'm not sure about that. First, the perception is that it's the system, not the back. Second, I'm not positive, but I think there are alot of promising backs in this draft.
I think the DL is what is thin this year, but again, I'm not positive. I just haven't looked at it enough. I think it's rather naive to think we could get a third. Tatum did average 4.5 last week. It's consistency he struggles with tho...I do agree with that. Last edited by watermock; 12-26-2006 at 03:08 PM.. |

Good lets get our much needed DL help, and possibly OL too. Pick up a free agent rb after letting Tatum go.

for sure Tatum got his chance and has shown he isn't going to be the guy in Denvers backfield. I see the Broncos looking to add 2 RBS to the team next yr. One through draft one veteren longshot. Then they will give Mike Bell a chance to show he can get it done.

It's not even worth mentioning Tatum's average. His 4.5 is ballooned due to a big run here and there. He's not a chain movin, drive sustaining runner. He's a big play here and there kinda guy. Let's face it, in this league, holes are not always going to be these monster sized gaps. You have to make guys miss and break tackles if you're going to be a great runner. He just don't got it like that folks. So he carried Ray Lewis one time for a nice run, how many other times this year have you looked back and said Tatum is impressive?
Next time you watch him run, which may not be at all the way I see it, just watch when his nice runs happen. They only happen when the hole is right in front of his face and you could drive a car through it. I can't even remember the last time the guy juked somebody or even broke a damn tackle. That's pathetic. Low salary or not - he's taking up a precious roster spot and we need every last one of those. He's not a difference maker so it's not worth it to keep him. Not even on a clerks salary. |

I can't believe the way some posters get so polarized on these issues. There are some people out there who I question if they have any objectivity. Tatum obviously isn't Terrell Davis, but he's improved alot and is running hard this year.
Injury prone? I wouldn't go that far. To me someone that you call injury prone is someone who misses time with little "tweaks" and that doesn't apply to Tatum. Since Tatum has been in Denver he's had a broken finger, a seperated shoulder and 2 turf toe injuries and he's gone back into battle before those injuries were completely healed, showing much more toughness than he's given credit for around here. I wonder if anyone here has ever had a turf toe injury, much less 2 of them at the same time. The fact that Tatum came back and played well despite those 2 lingering injuries is a testament to his toughness. And ZONA, where do you get off making any gurantees about the moves the Broncos will make? How could you possibly know whether or not Shanny and Co will move Tatum or keep him?All that being said, I do agree that we could use an upgrade for a starting running back. I'd like to get Michael Bush from Louisville, but it doesn't look like he's gonna come out this year. I'd be content with one of the Bells starting next year and then upgrading next upgrading in the next draft. |

Earlier this year he showed that he was the better back. He outplayed Mike Bell. He started running well between the tackles, showing good footwork and running with some power and toughness. Then he got turf toe. Now he isn't as effective. I'm not ready to throw him under the bus just yet. If nothing else he is valuable as a backup to Mike Bell right now. What I'll be watching for next year is whether that other RB can beat him out. Who the hell was that guy? He came in and flashed great cut back skills and blazing speed/acceleration.

I like Tatum, but I don't think he'll ever be anything but a change of pace back in the NFL. He was so dangerous last year coming off the bench for Anderson.
I think it would be stupid to shop Tatum. We need to keep him as the change of pace guy and try to find another chain moving RB to carry the load. This may or may not be Mike Bell, but regardless, Tatum's role on the team needs to be the change of pace guy. He's deadly in that role and only subpar in the starting role. |
