How about Jimmy Kiser? He's the quarterbacks coach at Vanderbilt. He was the one responsible for shifting the school's offensive scheme from the option to a passing attack built around Cutler. He's also widely credited as the guy who developed Jay. I have a very good source that told me that he should be doing more on that staff than he has been and they are just now starting to do so.
I know part of Jay' success is because he's just really talented, but it's also because he understands the position and how to play it. If you watch how Chris Nickson has played for Vandy this year, you can see Kiser knows how to teach fundamentals and understands the position very well. Nickson is a little raw but he plays like someone who is fundamentally sound and is learning to play like a pro. Here's his bio: http://vucommodores.collegesports.co...r_jimmy00.html Jimmy Kiser brings more than two decades of collegiate coaching experience to the Vanderbilt staff. He is in his fifth year as the Commodores' quarterback coach and recently was named Passing Game Co-Coordinator by Coach Bobby Johnson. During his Vanderbilt tenure, Kiser directed the collegiate career of Jay Cutler, who became the all-time leader in virtually every Commodore passing category. In 2005, Cutler became SEC Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-SEC after leading the league in completions, passing yardage and touchdown passes. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Kiser served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Richmond in 2001, and as quarterbacks coach at Memphis in 2000. Previously, he served more than a decade at North Carolina State. Kiser, 48, started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Furman. After coaching three years at Dunwoody (Ga.) High School, Kiser worked two years at Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) College, serving as offensive coordinator. In 1986, Kiser joined the North Carolina State staff. He served there as receivers coach (1986-95), quarterbacks and receivers coach (1996) and offensive coordinator (1997-99). Under Kiser in 1997, North Carolina State led the Atlantic Coast Conference in rushing offense and was second in total offense. The Wolfpack led the ACC in passing offense and total offense the following year. In 2000, Kiser moved to Memphis where he coached the Tigers' quarterbacks. In 2001, he served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Richmond. Kiser won four varsity letters at Furman, graduating in 1979. He was named All-Southern Conference as a wide receiver as a senior. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics and business administration, graduating cum laude. In 1982, Kiser earned a master's from the Clemson/Furman joint MBA program. Kiser and his wife, LeAnn, are the parents of four children: Anna Lee, 18, Jodi 17, Jamie, 15, and Kelly, 5. |

Actually that would be my next choice. The main reason I wanted Kiser was because of his rapport with Cutler and I think he understands what they need to do well to be effective. His experience running offenses and playing receiver is no doubt a contributing factor to his abilities to coach QB's. He has developed some great passing attacks and I think he could kind of fill the void of Troy Calhoun.

I wonder what Shanahan would think of the idea? He brought in Patterson... Wait! Did that work out yet?
Sometimes a coach is more dedicated to his family than the NFL. This is why a lot of NFL coaches go back to collegiate ranks. NFL is a brutal mistress. You hate her until she finally throws you out then she becomes the only mistress you ever loved. This is why I have all the respect in the world for what Tiki Barber is doing. |

Why
the current guy is the one that helped Cutler play better the last three games,(made Plummer look good until this year) and he knows the offense. Anyone they bring in will have to learn the offense and teach Cutler. One of the biggest strength of this organization is the stability that the coaching staff has. |

Agree with some guys on here. IF we make any changesto the staff it better be with the ST's first. Where is Pete Rodriguez when you need him.

Forget QB coach, we have the mastermind
![]() But as said above, ST is a must in the offseason. Its ALL about want to and effort. And since we cant cut all out players, get a new coach. |

We are usually playing with a disadvantage in field position by about 15-20 yards every two drives (1 offense, 1 defensive drive). I gurrantee next to turnovers this is one of the most important stats according to wins and losses in the NFL. We are consistently terrible at it. A street free agent signed practice squad player that we stole from another team came in and won special teams player of the weak. I don't know if that is something to be happy or sad about.

I think the changes in personell in the last game were a bigger improvement than what a new coach could bring.
Kircus fields a punt near 10 yard line where DWill would have let it go, and walked 10 yards away from punt so opposition ST'ers could get in position to down ball at 1. Kircus not only fields punt but makes great move & gains 17 yards! Morgan comes in & on 2nd or 3rd return almost busts one. Little things like that make the coaches look better. |

Somebody brought up the fact that our special teams are composed of a lot of defensive backs, which is why they can't shed blocks. Linebackers ought to be playing special teams, so until we change that it won't matter who coaches them. I'm not sure how you teach your rookie QB the NFL passing game with a college coach, no matter how good their report is. My guess is, Shanahan does most of the work with Jay anyway.
