FOXBOROUGH -- Patriots coach Bill Belichick held his Friday press conference and touched on the signing of free-agent punter Todd Sauerbrun.
Belichick confirmed that the team brought Sauerbrun in for a workout today, and then signed him. Practice squad punters Danny Baugher and Tom Malone had also been under consideration, and the Patriots also worked out veteran Sean Landeta on Tuesday. "We looked at all our options, and feel like this one is the best one for the football team," Belichick said. "That's what I said earlier in the week that we'd do and that's what we tried to do -- do what's best for the football team. That's always number one." Sauerbrun served a four-game suspension earlier in the season, and Belichick was asked if the team checked out Sauerbrun's off-field history before signing him. "It was a league issue," he said. "You have to talk to the league about that. All that stuff is done on a confidential basis. Even if I knew anything, I wouldn't say anything about it. We're not really privy to that type of confidential information. I would say talk to the league about it." Sauerbrun has experience as a holder, although Belichick said that doesn't mean he will hold in Sunday's game. Belichick said the team's quarterbacks and practice squad punters had been holding in practice. |

In an ultimate twist of fate, Todd causes a fumble of a punt return in the playoffs which ultimately leads to a Patriot's victory.

I would assume the Pats know they may face us in the playoffs. They just signed him to get all the super secret info that kickers have out of him.

The funny thing is that Sauerbrun is a good punter with issues. While a lot of people are upset with Ernster, he is still young and really does have a good leg. Another former Bronco Punter we traded to CAR for Sauerbrun, Jason Baker is having a probowl level year for them. It just takes awhile for kickers to develop consistency sometimes.

It's a good signing. Hell once we brought Ken Walter back we were in trouble. The point on that is that he was a veteran holder working with a rookie kicker. Now Walter is hurt too.
Beezer can punt farther than Walter. This is a good signing for us considering the options. |

Enster was hot when he thought Sauerbraun my come back to the team, during his suspension. Once Sauerbraun got cut Enster seemed to relax and his kicking has also.
Against the Bengals FP will be huge! Not to mention any playoff game. Ernster needs to play scared again. |

Why did we need Saurkraut when we have Elam to force fumbles on missed field goals from 60 yards?

A mistake by shanny not to let the malcontent back on the team. A hell of kicker. I just rewatched the NE Den Div Cham game. He made a hell of a play.
Still glad to see him back in the league. For some reason I like his steroid using, drunk driving ass. |

I was just scrolling the back pages and found this.
I will be watching how Todd performs today. I don't wish him back on the Bronco roster with the disruption he placed on the Broncos during his suspension. |
