Default Keeper League Question... Should I trade up for MoJo Drew?

So I'm in a 12 man keeper/franchise league, where we each have 7 players that we keep from the year previous. I'm currently in the Superbowl, so at best I'm going to be drafting at 11th.

Here are my keepers:

QB - Carson Palmer
QB - Jay Cutler
RB - Willie Parker
RB - Frank Gore
WR - Javon Walker
WR - Reggie Brown
TE - Kellen Winslow

The last place team in the league got a serious boost when the Cowboys started playing Tony Romo. However, due to the way our league is set up (only draftees "under contract" can be keepers, while free agents go back into the draft pool), he's not going to be able to keep Tony Romo... Though he has a shot at him in the draft.

He's been talking about taking Romo. The guy drafting at #2 is the guy who dropped Maurice Jones-Drew in week 2, and picked up God only knows who... And I swooped in and grabbed Drew, having heard that Shanahan is big on the kid.

So to my question... Would you trade Carson Palmer and an additional draft pick to move up and take Jones-Drew?

I'm thinking it's going to take Carson and my first round draft pick to pull it off, meaning that once I select, I won't be able to draft again until the 24th pick in the draft. That would be agonizing.

But then again, watching the guy reclaim Jones-Drew would be equally agonizing, especially since he'd be forever a keeper for the guy. I'd never get a shot at the kid again.

Decisions decisions...

Oh yeah... And franchise leagues rule! Funnest fantasy sports experience I've ever had.

I would say no as I think you are under selling Palmer.

Boy, there's a thought. I'm so anxious to nab the next Westbrook that I might be undervaluing my guy.

Hmmm... Jones-Drew is likely going to be a first rounder in regular leagues, though.

You are making a huge assumption IMO that he will be the primary guy in Jax. Don't forget that Greg Jones will be coming back, and their coach has always favored more of a pounder.

I would look for a better #2 WR frankly if you want to move Palmer.

I would not do it myself. Your set at RB and have depth at QB if something were to happen to either Cutler or Palmer. Giving up a good QB for a probably good RB could cost you down the road.

Of course I suck at this so there ya go.

Even though you were wrong with Edgerrin James , I think you're giving good advice here. I probably should let Jones-Drew get away this time, and do what I can to beef up at WR.

I think rather than trade Palmer, I'm going to hold onto him for depth until the right deal for the right WR comes along.

Reggie Brown needs to get more consistent, that's for sure. I'd like to get my hands on Fitz again. That owner is a wheeler-dealer, so that door might remain open, except for the fact that my last trade with him completely screwed him, and he ended up losing to me twice... once after the trade, and then last week during the playoffs.

Man I hope I win this week!

Not sure what your scoring is, but using the NPN scoring Javon scores 13 PPG, whereas Fitz scores 11.45 PPG.

James is the #22 RB with 146 points.

IMO giving up Fitz and James for a 1.5 PPG increase at WR is too much. But you are happy with it, and that is all that matters.

Seeing what your roster is now, I think you should have traded Edge for a WR alone (with Gore and Parker) or if you wanted to break the bank combo Edge and Palmer for a real stud WR. But you had a hard-on for Javon.

It's easier to find hidden gems at WR then RB and QB IMO, so keeping Palmer is the wise choice in this case IMO.

Good luck!

Heh... I know. I'm busting your balls bro. In hindsight, I probably should have tried to get more for Edge, given he's a "name" player. But I did have a hard-on for Javon, since I have Cutler in the wings. I like the idea of double points on that hook-up, knowing that every time Javon scores, I'm getting Quarterback points also.

In the end though, whether I got appropriate value or not, I wouldn't have made it to the Superbowl if it weren't for the trade. Saddling the other guy with Edge put me over the top in him both times I faced him this season, including last week in the conference playoff game. All's well that ends well...

Right now I'm ahead of my opponent in the Superbowl with 11 points from my kicker, over his 8 points for Ahman Green.
