"Yards were hard to come by for me," Tatum Bell said. "I know I messed up. Mike was hot - keep him in there. I'm cool. It was just like last year with me and Mike (Anderson). A guy gets hot, you go with him. I'm proud of Mike."

That's nice to hear, but what happens if Mike beats him out next year?

I think Mike or someone else will be the starter at RB next year. In this offense, the RB will take some hits since running mostly between the tackles, so needs to be a tough runner and I just don't think Tatum is a good fit here.

This year Tatum learned to run hard, next year he puts it all together and explodes.

People underestimate how important the toes are to push off...one is bad, two is lethal. I'm not sold on Mike Bell. Tater has been playing in pain.

I miss Mike Anderson. He fits this system well. Big size (he can run inside and not get tripped up by a shoe-string tackle and isn't afraid of contact), he has speed (when he gets into the open, he can run away from defenders) and he's pretty durable.
Tatum is injury prone and he tip toes through the hole. I would love to see him get a fire up his azz and hit the hole full speed for an entire game. I feel that he is almost trying too hard instead of trusting the blocking scheme. I would love to have the set-up we did last year. Primary back with 20-25 carries and Tatum comes in for 10-15. Obviously, it really worked and kept both backs fresh. |

We're too inconsistent at the RB position.

I'd love to see Portis come back. Think we have a shot with Betts big contract?

Good thread. Tatum has his deficiencies but he has always been a team guy.
I still want to have him on this team next year, but I do think its time we make a move at RB. I doubt we keep him around though if we go after a high-profile back in FA or trade. |

Nice to hear.
Bush, Lynch anyone? ![]() But being a 10-15 carry guy like Tatum is a perfect role for this offense, nothing to be ashamed of at all. |

You guys notice Mike Bells fumble happened EXACTLY the same way Tatum's fumble did? Mike's just happened to be recovered by the good guys.
Anyway, both had the same hold on teh ball and a Defensive player came in from the opposite side and got a good slap on it because he was in the backfield unblocked. Give Zona credit, they did a good job against the run. |

Who is on the FA market next year? Ahman Green, Michael Turner, etc....
I like the idea of drafting backs tho. Maybe Mike Bell hits the weights and adds another 10lbs or so in the off-season? Hell he's listed at 6' 220lbs - pretty big, runs hard - w/emotion, if he could just add a lil bit of weight or work on how he attacks a tackler then we may have a good back. He hits the hole hard, fast and has some very sweet moves in close quarters. I honestly think that we have a back in Mike Bell but he's gonna need an off-season to really get in the mindset of being a starting tailback in the NFL. |

Some fans are only too quick to blame the running back when the rungame stalls or mistakes are made. What about our offensive line yesterday or indeed the Arizona Defensive Line. Both contributed to our poor rungame and maybe our linemen were more focused on protecting Cutler yesterday so he'd have time to find the holes in the Arizona Pass D. Mike Bell and Tatum are still pretty decent RB's, players make mistakes it's about getting back on that horse and producing. Tatum has done it before and he will again this season. |

Mike Bell is superior to Tatum in only a couple areas in my opinion: vision and trust. Mike anticipates the holes opening better than Tatum does. He is willing to head downhill in anticipation of a hole opening up, and hit it full speed. Tatum, almost needs a written invitation to get into the hole.
Once in the hole, Tatum is really far superior to Mike. Mike runs hard and is willing to lay the wood, but Tatum is a game changer once he is in the backfield. Mike does have some juke moves, but he trips himself alot, and doesn't have the speed to house it. Tatum certainly has than speed, but he ust drives me crazy when he jump-stops into the hole, instead of accelerating into it. He got especially tentative after his fumble, which seems to happen with him. When he get some success, he gets more aggressive, but when the yards are few and tough to get, he seems to prefer to stop and wait for a gap rather than head downhill. |

"Hand this much to Tatum..."
I wouldn't hand anything of value to him, as he is likely to drop it. |

Tatum is a third down type back and too soft to carry the load every down. Mike Bell is a serviceable back up.
We need a legit stud running back. |
