Default I Would be Cool with Taking a Cornerback on Day One

I would even be cool with taking a cornerback in round one.

Darrent is small, but he makes up for it by being out of position all the time.

He couldn't guess this much and be successful if he had Champ Bailey tools and his skills are much more modest than that.

A "John McKay-ish" evaluation of Darrent?

Funny!

His CB play has been awful this year. Not to mention his contribution to perhaps the worst special teams I've ever seen for Denver.

I have always been more of a defensive minded person, but I think now we should focus on our strength which is offense. It might be time to join the arms race with Indy and Cincy.

I agree, Slap. I had the same thought during the game today.

I'd rather someone else play safety and let Foxy try his hand as the starter first.

Bingo...you have to wonder why D-Will's slipped so much in one year though, and weather the so called sophmore jinx has anything to do with it. He's been horrible as a punt returner too though.

CB is not a pressing need IMO. Darrent has not played well, but if the Broncos got more from their DL, that would help the CB play. You can't give QB's forever to throw the ball.

You also can't have the CB they're going to pick on 99 times out of 100 looking lost when the ball is in the air.

Something has to change at the CB position oposite Bailey that's for sure. But i'm not sure the draft is the answer. Like others have said, i'd rather see Foxy get a shot. DL and safety are larger concerns than CB IMO

I agree, just get a good weakside DE for defense, then start putting some resources into offense- mainly the line & HB

My biggest problem with the secondary right now is Fox at S, he looks terrible out there. Missed tackles, blown coverage, he needs to be given a shot back at corner because he looks lost at safety.

According to his Fambily/crew Mr Jones is going to rescue him from Denver & bring him home to the Cowboys.

Oh you forgot his lone punt return for -4 yards.

I agree our pass rush is deplorable, but Darrent is just a bad football player.

How many times to you see him try and make the tackle on sweeps, only to have the ballcarrier break his weak ankle tackle and get outside?

His coaches in Pop Warner probably taught him the cornerback is supposed to turn that play back inside, but there he is trying to make the tackle and giving up a big run instead.

I'm tired of his glaring lack of fundamentals in every aspect of his game.

I've never seen anybody call fair catches with more room to run, either. I don't know if he's afraid of fumbling or leery of getting hit, but he's killing our offense with those pitifully timid returns.

GREAT IDEA! I mean man we have no other issues so let's have another 4 DB draft. Brilliant.

Darrent will be fine. If not, Foxworth or Paymah better step up.

SIGH

Can we get some Dlineman first before we start getting rid of CB's?

I'd rather take the "Chicago Bears" approach (Average corners who look like Deions with that pass rush), then starting all over.
We have too many holes elsewhere for this to be a top priority.

There are really no excuses for Williams anymore. Not only does he suck, he has a ridiculous ego and refuses to work on anything.

We need to get rid of him.

Front four and safety. Not another cornerback... And if there's any indication that Denver wants to upgrade the cb position, might as well go the trade route or free agency.

I completely agree with maven and getting the corner through trades or free agency.

Why -Slap- is delusional enough to think Shanahan can actually draft a decent corner is beyond me. He hasn't been able to do it for a decade.

Last time I thought that NE took Chris Canty right before we had our pick. I thought what a mistake because the way Jac picked us apart in the 96 playoff game. We took Trevor Pryce next. Glad I was wrong

Makes me wonder what the coaching staff was watching when they raved how great Darrent was doing in camp if this is all he's got.

Hate to agree with you but the only way he got a great cb was by trading a potential 2,000 yard back

Maybe drafting someone like Reggie Nelson in the first round would help out the Broncos.Nelson could allow the Broncos to play more 8 man fronts plus help cover the other side of the field that Champ does not cover.
