Well I'm about two and half weeks late on starting this thread but here goes. I accepted a freshman coaching position at a high school in town. The school has won or played in the conference championship for 5 years running. We got off to a good start once again this year. We won 49-32. My star had 22. And I got a technical.

I ref too so when its crappy and my association is the one that sends the officials I feel that I have a right to yell. I made my point...and it switched the momentum. We went on a 8-0 run the girl missed both free throws and we stole the inbounds pass.

Won two more...the first one by 29 and last night was a nail biter by 5. Definately see lots of areas I need to work on, especially rebounding. Anyone out there got any ideas?

4-0 a ten point win over the Moorhead orange team. 34-24. I know the scores seam low, but I pride my team on its defense. I hope to never give up more than 50 points this season. We play Whapeton tomorrow. I am missing one of the girls on my team who neglected to tell me that she was leaving for South Africa over the weekend. At least she wasn't a key contributer.

54-40 win to go 5-0, our last game before christmas. I think we are finally figuring it out. We play the best when we press. They get really sloppy whn they don't. I have seen us look like we could be many class b varsity teams and then look like we couldn't beat an 8th grade team. I know we have lots of talent and we have the ability to show up lots of people. It will be interesting to see which team shows up after christmas.

Two games this week, won by 13 on tuesday and 12 thursday. Both were ugly. Tuesdays game we were up big the whole game and just let them back in in the end. Last night the first half was close but being the better team I knew we would pull ourselves out of it. I am a mean coach though. I made a girl on my team cry because she couldn't find the girl she was guarding.

Two games last week, we lost the game on tuesday, partially because I wasn't there and the girls didn't play together but they still lost 39-24. On saturday we beat Valley City big. Part of my pregame speech and part of the making up for losing but they won 51-19.

Won another last night, was missing my 6'2" stud in the middle. Was a rough game. Kinda funny to watch how girls who don't know how play basketball know how to push and shove, but when you get a team who knows how to play they still can over come it. We won by 12 and should've been 20. I didn't stay to watch how the second team beat the same team we played, but I wish we would've played second. It was the intercity rivalry. They combined both of their teams because of numbers. If the two of our teams were combined it would've been a 60 point game.

Well season is growing to an end 3 games and the tournament left. We still have only 1 loss and are really starting to play as a team. I got technical #2 last night and was actually told to sit down and shut up from half way across the gym by the official. I guess telling him he was wrong hit a nerve, however as unprofessional as that was his association apologized to me for his actions and said that he will be reprimanded for it. I also reported it to the state association. I guess the real reason I was a total ass about it was I hate the negative picture of refs that is created and he was adding to it. All he would have had to of done was come and explain that the foul was on the rebound and not the shot as he called it I would've been happy. He didn't and I deserved that. Anyway...I have now lost one of my guards, a lefty who was averaging about 10 points a game for this week for sure because of a stress fracture. We have been really lucky with injuries.

Ok, so I'm going to end this thread now, we lost both games on saturday and ended up fourth. And our record actually ended up 13-4. Not to bad for a first time coach. I enjoyed doing it. I have actually got to help out with the Varsity as they swept through the EDC and supprised everyone there. I didn't sit on the bench cuz I didn't want to wreck what they had going, but state was the last two days and they lost both games and are done.
