If he brings in a good, proven offensive coordinator then this is a good hire.

I thought Randy did well in his introductory press conference. I haven't heard him talk to the media very much in the last 6 years as defensive coordinator so this was a nice surprise. He's no Larry Coker in front of the camera, that's for sure.

It may have something to do with having to deal with the expectations and boosters in Bama. Those people are nuts.

Wow, thanks for the head's up, Fox Sports radio, and my local newspaper both were reporting that rodriguez took the job, both were trying to go into more detail saying that the WV players were pretty upset and that Rodriguez was going to address his recruits and prospects about it, and that they didn't know if he would coach the bowl game or not. I guess it proves that most of these sports writers must have got their first job trying to predict the weather...they must have sucked at that too.

Does anyone know where I can get a application for the Bama job??

2 coaches have now played alabama to get a rise at their current school ... their AD must be in a whole lot of ****, especially when you see what kind of image of alabama this paints in the media ... nobody likes to be denied, and he´s now been publicly denied twice ... how will the players, fans and boosters feel when they finally get a new coach as everyone knows he´s third choice, at best?

Why in the world hasn't SoCal responded to this thread yet? I'm really curious what he thinks about this.

Pretty soon BAMA is going to be searching Americas bed and breakfasts for a coach.

Well let me cheer you up!

While BYU is not even on the same planet as Miami, I kind of know how you feel. After having LaVell Edwards forever, he finally retired and the reigns were handed over to Gary Crowton who basically rode Edwards' team to success his first year and then buried the program in mediocrity. We did nothing and won nothing. We'd have the talent to give teams like Boise St a run for their money in their own house only to get buried with weird play calling and pitiful collapses.

After Crowton was fired, we went after Kyle Whittingham. He seemed like the best choice. He's LDS, has pro experience, a BYU alum and what many thought would be the answer. In ultimate disgrace he snubbed us for the University of Utah, our most bitter rival.

The department had nowhere to go and so turned the reigns over the Bronco Mendenhall the defensive coordinator.

I lived next door to Judd Anderton while I was attending BYU. We served together as ward (church) missionaries, and so had to meet every week. Among many things, we talked football. He always told me that he was "in love Bronco" and that he was such a great coach (this was when he was Defensive coordinator). And how can you NOT love a coach named Bronco?

Well here we are two years later. We're ranked again after five years, won the conference and Bronco was named region 5 coach of the year. What appeared to be a grasping at the "next best thing" turned out to be the very best thing.

My point is that while it might seem like he's a ho-hum answer, he might end up being the guy that brings everyone back and sends the Hurricane's into contention. Give the guy a chance; You might be surprised.

Recruiting will be key in restoring the Canes. Don't they still owe Coker $$? I hope that wont be a reason they dont get a great O-coord.

Shula got a raw deal. He took over a program that got the freakin' death penalty and lead them to a 10-2 record and Cotton Bowl victory in his third season. He goes a respectable 6-6 the next season ('respectable' given some key losses from the '05 team plus still dealing with ramifications from the sanctions) and they can him. What more can you expect from a guy who had to deal with those sort of restrictions? Those people are insane. Shula had a top 15 recruiting class coming in that's beginning to unravel. They are getting what they deserve.
