The troops will start being pulled out next year. They'll leave a token advisor
force in, but they probably won't accomplish much. Eventually the Iraqis
will break up along ethnic and religious lines similar to what happened in
Yugoslavia. But not before a massive slaughter. The remaining states
will eventually become puppets of Iran and Syria, which will be the
dominent powers in the middle east. And the US will have
moved on to other things, similar to what happened after Vietnam,
and with the US a weaker and less influential country. China will
assume the role of the Super Power to deal with by the middle
of the century.

china has a much...ummmm....stronger attitude towards muslims? atleast muslims in china. outside china, china could care less what u do.

as for vietnam, I still feel bad for the vietnamese that we let the communists win, they suffered for 3 decades(and still suffer) because of that.

I think democracy will survive. maybe not nice democracy(afterall 51% could decide to arrest the other 49%), but some version will continue. they'll probably concede a bunch of laws to the islamists to quiet them down, similar to pakistan. probably some really grotesque rape laws, perhaps some apostasy law.

its hard to tell what the militias will do exactly after america is gone, ostensibly their best reason for killing their own ppl(america's presence) will be gone. they'll almost for sure keep doing it, atleast for a while. eventually their will might tire though, especially on their current reasoning. now mayhaps they get new reasoning, like hassan in lebanon. afterall the original reasoning was a sham anyway. but they'll still be more limited then if 150 000 americans were there.

there will probably be a bunch of sketchy areas in iraq, again, like pakistan. tribal zoneish places. especially in the sunni part, the gov't probably won't bother exercising much control over it for quite a while. seeing as it has no oil.

I guess the real flashpoint will be when america leaves at first, if the gov't can stand, not in any civilized way, but in a very primal survival sort of way.

Nothing will change until we can get the resident dumbass in the white House to come to grips with the real situation and and gravity of his **** up in Iraq. Once he eaither comes to grips or is impeached (which is almost the only option due to his arrogance regarding the Iraq war).
Then we'll pull our troops, and I hate to say it but our troop losses will increase in frequency and numbers as we de-mobilize.
An all out civil war will break out within weeks of our departure due to the crooked goverment left in power by our forced democracy. All of this is due to our lack of pre-war planning and post invasion training!

How 'bout "we leave the place more fugged up then what it was when he (the decider) decided to invade it". Is that better The only thing accomplished was to rid them of Saddam, kill thousands of our men and women, maime tens of thousands of our men and women, fed the mighty military machine and all of the associated civilian contractors, spent $400+ billion (to date) on a lie (which our children and grandchildren get to pay for for decades to come (note: this doesn't include the Billions yet to be spent in reconstruction and security costs), ruined the infrastructure of a nation who did not attack us, allowed 100000 plus Iraqui casualties and are going to leave the place one giant mess to clean up.
Thanks GW, you are a genius to some!

Yes, ppl are saying there is currently a civil war in Iraq, but at this time it is limited to certain areas, whereas I feel it will break out nationwide with the support from the Iranians and Saudis.

I think the current government isn't going to be able to stand on its two feet regardless... I hope it doesn't happen, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was a coup and a secular pro-western dictator (most likely another sunni) was installed into power, the Kurds would probably get **** on once again :-(

? Actually, that's my best case scenario. I'm not sure the kurds would have to get crapped on again.

I really do think in the end of it all we will see three state solution. The North dominate by Kurds will be the only US ally in the area, the south will align with Iran and Sunni in rest of area.

We are the ones who took the Sunnis out of power (saddam) and put the Shi ites in power. It doesn't matter how long we sacrifice Americans in Iraq for no logical reason, that situation (sect war) isn't changing while we're there, this should be obvious by now.
