Is it time for this orginizaton to change from the small offensive lines that run the zone blocking schemes to some real road grinding offensive lineman.
The league isnt built anymore for a scrambling quarterback, its built to drop back and pass which smallish offensive lines arent good for. I know this philosophy has worked for us for so many years but is it finally time for a change? |

I said it in other threads, and I'll say it in this one. I think the overall philosophy is fine, but I think it's a mistake not to pursue a fullback who can impact our offense in a way that mimicks what Howard Griffith provided us back in the day. That guy was a runningback/tackle/tightend by function. He gave us ability in all three phases of offense. I'm talking about a guy like Lorenzo Neal or Mack Strong. Maybe Dookie Davenport. I think that would go a long way towards improving our running game.

The philosophy is fine like Taco said theyneed a better fullback as well as better runningback and tightend.Runningback by committee is too hard to establish rythem. A tightend that can stretch the field would help drastically.Honestly do you think other teams actually respect our runningbacks or tightends.

Heck the running game if is fine, the OC needs to stay with. Running 14 times is a joke. And I think both KJ and Sapp are fine as the FB

yeah, we are still missing a few guys but a FB & TE would greatly help. And most important a feature RB.

I think we need to get Bigger guys on the line to stay in step with today's NFL.

Jeeze...Sapp dropped a pass a few weeks ago...that doesn't mean T.O. didn't drop several a couple weeks ago. Give him another chance. He didn't drop one this week. He was nervous in the start. Our running game is abysmal. 28 yards OS of the QB? Where do you go with that...how about a different direction Mike? I don't understand how he gets no touches when he was running like an animal against INdy on only two runs. 29 ****in' yards from our backs and we don't give him the rock a few times? I would love to dump the zone blocking scheme. We're in a transitional period where we could easily shift towards a drive blocking scheme if we desired. It would nice to be able to pound teams into submission and stop being such pansies on the goalline.

I want more size on defense, too. We've become the same kind of small, soft team that got wiped out by bigger NFC teams in the 80s Super Bowls. Let's get some roughnecks in here and start imposing our will on teams. We've got the big armed quarterback to terrorize secondaries. Why not build a team that intimidates in all phases?

I would love to get some big boys on the Offensive and Defensive lines. The battle starts in the trenches.

It's actually not that different. The latest slew of offensive linemen we've been bringing in are all around 300 lbs. Pears is 305 and he is playing way better than anyone expected. Cooper Carlisle is 295 and is the best guard on the line. Chris Kuper is 302 and he even has room to get bigger up top and is going to be a stud. Chris Myers is 300 lbs. That really only leaves Ben Hamilton, Lepsis and Nalen as the three undersized guys on the line.
I'd like to see us trade Hamilton to Texas, slide Cooper over and bring Kuper up to start. Then Lepsis can play on either side, though I have to admit that Pears doesn't get pushed around as much as Lepsis was before the injury. However I think Lepsis will have some really powerful legs from the rehab when he gets back. Either way, the offensive line is something I'm excited about for the next year. We have some really good prospects. |

We don't get pushed around at the goalline. We've got one of the best redzone offenses in the league this year (when we get there) and we did last year as well. Virtually all of our TD's there this year have been runs right into the heart of defensive line. Our third down conversions - even third and long - have almost all been on the ground too.

Its not the offensive philosphy thats the problem. Its the execution of the passing attack. If we make over half of those passes on a regular basis than the offense would be doing its job. But when one part of the offense fails than its a chain reaction to every other facet of the team. Once we fix the passing game then the running game will improve and the rest of the team will regain more confidence as well.

I don't think the problem is the scheme as much as it is a lack of talent due partly to injuries. Kaylore already broke down the O-line, so I'll skip that. I'm pretty confident in the WR position, as I think Rod will stick around for 1 more year as a 3rd receiver. Marshall has been showing some signs of life and we have the best receiver in the AFC West in Javon Walker. I think Kircus will continue to improve as well. We don't really have anything at TE right now, but we know how talented Scheffler is and I think he'll be our guy in 1-2 years.
We need to reload at RB. Tatum played well for us but I tend to agree that he's just not right for our system here in Denver. I don't think Mike Bell or Nash are that player either, as neither one of them is a complete back. |

I would like a change on D side. Personally if Denver can't get any good DE for a 4-3, I would like a 3-4, but Gold would go and Drafting would be Key. Have Webster and Wilson in middle, DJ outside and draft a Hybrid to go along with Chuk and Dumerville. Hire a D coord who knows the ins and outs. O will be fine once Denver gets a quality RB. Portis ran great and found endzone a lot. Need a great back.
