On 950 this morning.
-apologized for sitting on the fence for so long -said it's a baptism by fire in this league and it's time for Cutler to step in -also said he's been pleasantly surprised by Young and that most Skins fans probably wish they'd gone with Campbell sooner Didn't hear the entire interview, so I'm sure there's more. |

Not this week since it's a short week, but after the chiefs game it would be fine with me to make the change.

He's not so good at being an analyst anway. What are those guys gonna say if the move backfires and we miss the playoffs? The great part about being an analyst is that you can say two different things to two different people and always be right.
Shanahan on the other hand is responsible for winning football games, plain and simple. As long as he believes that a) Jake gives us the better chance to win and/or b) Cutler puts our playoff hopes in jeopardy then he must stay with Jake. Shanahan's evaluation criteria is pretty plain and simple: win or lose. The irony in that is that his very board was so proud of Jake's won/loss record and in fact touted it as his reason for being a Bronco. This very board discussed the merit of Jake as MVP just about 12 months ago. This very board argued about Jake's deserving to be a Pro-Bowler less than 12 months ago. We win 75% of the time with Jake under center, granted its not all because of him. We have won zero games with Cutler under center. It must be nice for Schlereth to sit there on his high-horse and criticize. |

I have been listening to 950 all morning and that is the majority of the bullet points of the Schlereth interview.......I also asked in another thread about how hooked up Sandy Clough is because he has been saying all morning that the Broncos are closer to making a change than any one realizes....Not sure what that means.

It's clear that with Jake at QB even if we make the playoffs we won't go far. What Cutler could do is in question, but at this point we might as well give it a shot.

I also should take a day to calm down but dang.......if we can't beat Indy and San Diego at HOME with Plummer what makes you think we can win in the playoffs.

We shouldn't waste another minute on Jake. Not another minute.

A change must be made so that we can at least attempt to win the shootouts we will be in. Jake has no confidence and it is time.

I guess Jake gets some blame from last night because he goes out to dinner with the Defense, damn must've distracted them enough to make them collapse in the last 20 minutes of play. I don't care how many turnovers you have, 28 points in 1 and a half quarters = poor defense.
And btw, we had one on a fourth down, where an incompletion would've been the same as a pick. And you know what? Why don't we blame Jake also for his fumble when he was the reason we made the last minute interesting with a few passes to bring us from our own 12 to striking distance. Would Cutler upgrade this team one day? Sure. But with a great QB Denver would've won one more game so far this season - St.Louis. They still would've lost to Indy and Sandiego due to Defense that's much like old Trevor Pryce. Real good against scrubs, a joke vs. Competition. Last edited by Willynowei; 11-20-2006 at 11:44 AM.. |

I have been on the fence as well, thinking that Plummer gives us the best chance to win. I'm done with the guy. He was just crappy last night. It wasn't entirely his fault but he isn't helping. One of the advantages of going with the young guy is that it will force us to use our strengh...the running game. I say throw Culter out there this week, rest Tatum and get ready for the stretch run. Come back after the longer layoff and get ready to pound the rock for all of December and January. We only need Cutler to be decent not great and let the running backs take care of the rest.

Screw waiting...put him in now. Plenty of qb's have been baptised under fire. I'm just as sick as eveyone else about overthrowing JW, twice when he had a couple of steps on deep balls, the fumbles, inconsistencies, etc. Let the kid go out and give it a shot. |

I think we should play Cutler as well and expect him to sputter til he learns. Some will say we would be throwing the season. I say we sputter plenty with Jake so what's the big deal.

The thing I'm most mad about is why couldn't Madden blame Plummers poor play on his thumb or something like he does with Brett.

If this wasn't a painfully short week, I'd love to see Jay out there Thursday night. I don't know what to do, I'm still sick about last night. I'd like to hope we could ride it out until Seattle and get him his 1st start at home, but there's a real possibility we could be 7-5 by then and it would be too late by then.

a)I would say those who feel Jake offers a better chance of winning are in the minority these days. b)Jake is 1-2 against teams we're likely to meet in the playoffs before even getting to the SB. Both losses at home, which won't be the case in January. We've lost zero games with Cutler under center. Lamest argument going. |

Big Ben. Everytime he plays badly something is wrong with him. Anyone ever gonna realize he is Jake Plummer all over? A fine QB when he has a good run game and a good defense. A gambler that makes too many mistakes when relied upon to win games by himself. He maybe has a little more upside in ability and youth, but he has the same characteristics as Jake. I've talked to Steeler fans that will even acknowledge that.

And let me say this about Plummer: I have been a Jake guy. I love the guy for what he has brought to Denver the past few years. He got us over the hump, and in to the playoffs the past 3 years and won in the playoffs which is more than can be said about our last batch of QBs post Elway. I felt as though he could play well in the bigger games like he had previously (Indy, New England), but he didn't last night. It is clear that he isn't the guy anymore. He is in a lame duck situation and cannot deal with the pressure. I thank him for everything that he has done, but if he can't get it done in KC, then it is time to give the kid a chance.
