Default Wild Card Battle starts this week against the Chiefs

This upcoming week could be our entire season. We face the Chiefs in a divisional match-up that will go a long ways towards determining wild card positioning. If we lose to the Chiefs, we share a 7-4 record with them. If we beat them, we go up 2 games on them and virtually shut the door on them, leaving them at 6-5 while we coast to 8-3.

WE NEED THIS GAME!

Denver's schedule the rest of the way out:

@KC
host Seattle
@ San Diego
@ Arizona
host Cincinatti
host San Francisco

KC's Schedule the rest of the way:

host Denver
@ Cleveland
host Baltimore
@ San Diego
@ Oakland
host Jacksonville

SD's schedule the rest of the way:

host Oakland
@ Buffalo
host Denver
host KC
@ Seattle
host Arizona

We NEED this game.

Huge game, but the division is still within Denver's grasp. San Diego is going to lose a couple.

Wow Bob that is a change from what you were saying earlier this week.

No doubt this game and the seattle game are huge. We lose again we are in serious trouble.

What was I saying? Denver and San Diego are still competing for the divison. The Chiefs are a real long shot at this point. I've been banking on a wildcard since last week when we fell 2 behind. I think we'll catch Denver, but not San Diego, barring a miracle where we beat them in San Diego. But who knows, we did beat them with our backup quarterback earlier this year. I guess we're pretty good, y'know?

If that backup quarterback is playing Thursday, I think you'd have a good shot at beating Denver but it looks like Herm's confindence in Green was about as big as Shanahan's confidence in Plummer tonight.

Better hope Green shakes of that rust real quick.

Not expecting a win, and I hope Friday morning Shanny says Cutler will be starting the next game.

Herm's got plenty of confidence in Green. It showed in the fourth quarter. We were just protecting him a bit too much today, which is understandable. This was a good warm up for him. I expect us to come out passing next week to get Denver's safeties out of the box.

Shanahan isn't a moron. Starting a rookie quarterback in a nationally televised game at the loudest, nastiest most in-your-face stadium in the league is a recipe for disaster. He's going to ride jake out this year.

Yeah, I guess that was classic Herm. Playing too conservative like Marty.

You guys were one completion away from blowing what should have been an easy win.

SD is 8-2 and we are 7-3 with still one more meeting between us. I fail to see how the division is not still winnable. The title of this thread is inherit pessimism.

Chiefs-Raiders is always close, for the most part. I've given up predicting otherwise.

We can play that game all day. Larry was an ankle-tackle away from breaking a 50-yard TD run today. We were a hair's breadth away from about 10 sacks today. The Broncos were a quarterback away from a win today.

You realize that the game against the Chiefs is on Thursday right? I did not say I wanted a rookie to start at Arrowhead. I said if they lose at Arrowhead with Jake, I want a rookie to start Denver's next game, which will be at home and 10 days later.

That might be a good idea. Throw Jake into the fire at Arrowhead. If he comes out victorious, he remains the starter. Anything less than solid play and his ass is benched.

Chiefs | Gonzalez plans to play Week 12
Sun, 19 Nov 2006 10:43:57 -0800

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Kansas City Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez (shoulder) expects to play Week 12. "There's nothing that could keep me out of that game. I'm already able to lift my arm above my head. I'm much further along than they thought I'd be," said Gonzalez.

I don't care if he plays solid at Arrowhead. If they lose, the division is pretty much out of reach even if they're still mathematically in it. That means if they go to the playoffs, it'll be on the road and we all know what will happen then. Let Jay take some lumps now instead of all of them next year.

I'm on board with that. This is Plummer's last chance. Either step up and lead your team to a badly needed win in this big game, in this hostile environment or sit down and make way for the kid.

Looking into my crystal ball, I can see Jay Cutler starting in two weeks.

I think we win in spite of Plummer, not because of him. When is the last time Plummer actually saved us and won a game for us? When is the last time our team pulled through with Plummer having a bad game? Thought so.
