Denver Post Staff Writer While San Diego wide receiver Keenan McCardell calls the team's recent big offensive numbers "a different animal for us," Sunday's 49-41 win over Cincinnati left some observers wondering about the Chargers' normally stout defense. The Bengals rolled up 545 total yards, with quarterback Carson Palmer throwing for 440. In the first five games of the season, San Diego had allowed an average of just more than 241 total yards, with only 159 in the air. In two of the past three weeks, however, opponents have gone over 400 yards overall, with more than 300 yards passing. "Last year, we gave up maybe two big passes all year long. We gave up two today," Chargers defensive back Quentin Jammer said after the Cincinnati game. "We can't be relaxed knowing that we have a great offense." The most devastating individual performance may have come from Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson, who caught 11 passes for a team-record 260 yards and two touchdowns. While those numbers might have Broncos wideout Javon Walker licking his lips in anticipation of going against the San Diego secondary, Jammer insisted there will not be a repeat performance when the Chargers play Sunday night at Invesco Field at Mile High. "You know, Javon's a great receiver, but I've said it before and I'll say it now, Chad Johnson is the best in the league," Jammer said. "I've played against every receiver that people think are the best, except (Carolina's) Steve Smith. So he may be up along with him, Nos. 1A and 1B. "I'm not discrediting what Javon Walker can do, but he's no Chad Johnson." ooh boy this will be good ![]() |

If I recall correctly, Jammer has been pretty much regarded as a bust over there in San Diego.

Jammer was only good when he could get away with mugging receivers down the field. He's been pretty mediocre since the "rule emphasis".

Well that's a good thing for Jammer because Johnson destroyed their entire secondary. Housh did to until what's-his-nuts cheap shoted him. And the Bengals played a rookie center....so if Javon is half as good as cinco...it'll still be a bad day for them

the best thing abou tthat game is now shanny and coyer have some good film to learn from. i can see a repeat performance, on the other side of the coin though, it could go the other way. sneaking suspicion that this may be a boring game, the score will end being like 3-2 denver...100 yds passing, 30 yds rushing, and about a kabillion(yep, its a real number) punts

When I read that quote this morning, I was smiling ear-to-ear, because Javon will be playing with an even bigger chip on his shoulder.
Jammer is stupid to say something like that especially since Javon is lighting it up this year. I hope Jake gets Javon some deep passes this Sunday. Go Broncos!! |

The only thing that Javon doesn't do as well as ocho is self promote. I don't believe that the bengals even look at Chad when they get in the redzone because he isn't a big enough target. I hope Jammer enjoys getting fade routes put on him all day.

No one in San Diego that values receivers getting shutdown more than interception numbers thinks Jammer is a bust. Also, none of the big plays given up to the Bengals were by Jammer.

Jammer is right. Walker is no Chad Johnson, but due only to the fact that Plummer is no Carson Palmer. Watching Jake try to get the ball to Javon was like watching an ant try to pull a cheerio into the anthill. He managed to get him the ball on time and in stride once, and we all know what happened from there.

Javon is a beast on every Sunday but he turns into a one man wrecking crew when he's properly motivated. Just DON'T underthrow him Jake!!!

Jammer is an idiot. The only reason their secondary wasn't exposed earlier in the season was because of the pressure they were getting on the QB. Now with roid-boy out and a couple others in the front 7, teams can pass on them.

thinking about it tho, he really cant do much worse.
JW wont put up 260 yards, so it will be easy for Jammer to say that he "stopped" Javon. |
