Default Did the NFL screw Denver by moving the San Diego game to Sunday night?

With a Thursday game that really cuts down on the prep time for KC, especially with travel involved. You guys are at a real disadvantage.

Yes, they lose a whole 4 hours of prep time. The horror.

Hope you didn't dislocate your shoulder making this reach.

Yeah it does hurt a little bit. I don't appreciate the league doing it. Frankly, I don't care about NBC's ratings. It's already a very short week and a truncated practice schedule. You can bet your ass that the coaching staff was going to get working as early as Sunday evening in their preparation to help make up time. Actually, last year, they also worked all of the saturday before the sunday game on breaking down the Cowboys. It's already bad enough the way it is with a Thursday game, you've got to totally rearrange everything, you cant spend your usual Monday and Tuesday's preparing before the beginning of practices on Wednesday. The staff could use the extra 4 hours Sunday evening. Thankfully it is a familiar opponent so its not like we are trying to decipher a completely foreign offense and defense. We'll probably try and start preparing this Saturday like we did last year but they'll need to squeeze out a few more hours somehow of preparation to really do the type of thorough job that they usually do (and need to do).

Sorry, but I disagree with you SoCal. Clockwork is right. There is a four hour difference. You could also make the case that we'll have a night game before another night game so it will better acclimate the team to next game. If we lose on Thanksgiving, it will not be because we lost 4 hours of preparation time.

look at it this way, the NFL helped the Broncos by giving them another 4 hours to analyze the Bolts

Yes, but it's better than watching Detroit get killed every year.

You make it sound like it sucks! I love it! We get a national game, it makes for a fun holiday and last years' game was a great one! Not to mention we owned the Cowboys at home; Ain't nothin' wrong with that!

I don't know why, exactly, but Shanahan seems to really like this Thanksgiving thing.

Good points all around by folks here...Denver knows both opponents backward & forward, and for whatever reason, the Broncos seem to perform pretty well under the pressure, so the short week isn't the handicap it might be while facing other opponents.

I'm worried about this running game though...or lack thereof, and in a similar fashion, the O-line.

Plummer to Javon Walker cannot remain the team offense for long, so the hope is something gets sorted out in short order...or else.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks our running is average at best for us.

Shanahan said somewhere that he liked being able to give the players time off after the Thanksgiving game. It is true that they are somewhat harried to prepare, but the coaches don't panic, and the players will just do the best they can. But having the extra couple of days is like having a break before the final push to get to the playoffs. And as Wabbit said, it isn't like the Broncos haven't played the mullets before....

Just think, when we get W's in the next two games we'll have 10 days to prepare for Seattle...

Who has the short end of the stick then

I think the short week helps...No chance for info. overload, just go and play...

Well, im not saying that the 4 hours will or will not be the reason we lose (if we do lose), but it certainly has somewhat of a detrimental effect. It is already a very short week where we have to get in all the stuff we usually get in, in about half the time. Openers, Base Pass, Base Run, Short Yardage, Red Zone, Goalline, Nickel Pass, Nickel Run, 2 Minute Offense, 4 Minute Offense, Backed up offense, Blitz Beaters, End of Half, End of Game, Specials, Playaction, Movement, Must Calls, Two point conversion, all of this stuff takes thought, study and reflection during the process of breaking down the opponent and then installing what you will do. Most of all, it takes TIME. There was an article from the Denver Post a few weeks ago detailing how hectic it is for NFL coaches and outlining a typical Shanahan week and the long hours he and his staff put in. All this work has to be done in about half the time, its really hard, its excrutiatingly hard to put in the kind of effort to get you to the point on Thursday night, where you would be on Sundays if you prepared as fully and as vigorously as usual..even in the latter situation, as the article described, they are working all the time, often 16-18 hour days. So if we are going to have to prepare just as well in half the time, id say 4 hours are a big deal. It may not make or break things, but it certainly makes things unnecessarily more difficult when we were already trying to squeeze prep into whatever hours we can find.

The league always screws us with the schedule every year. They are trying hard to make us lose... it never happens.

Why don't we ever play KC in September? I feel that we would have a better chance to beat them then. Nope, they always load us up in November and December. If we do play them earlier, they blatantly miss 53 clips on one play and we lose on a $hitty call.

The league likes us because we win so they pin rating matchups all over the place.

KC, NE, and Baltimore all in the first month? Indy and Pitt back to back? Two super bowl teams for the second time in as many years?

The schedule has been rediculous.

How much time do you need to get ready for KC?
It is clear that Herm is riding LJ all the way to an 8-8 season and another $5m in the bank.

That's how it goes. The best teams get the harder schedule. Couple that with the fact we just rotated onto a hard conference the past two years and it's jut how it goes. The league rewards failure and punishes success...unless you're the Colts.

Denver's schedule isn't that difficult, especially compared to Kansas City's. We get saddled with multiple back-to-back road trips every year. Denver does not.

Back to back seasons against the super bowl teams. Back to back seasons against FLA teams on the road in September.

The Chiefs schedule usually is a joke. You all just choose to lose to terrible teams... like Cincy at home, Houston at home a few years ago.

Cry when you have to play the leagues best year in and year out. KC never will though because they are the three year rotation HC plan and can never consistently win like Denver.
