Jason Campbell is in. Brunell will be the #2 qb, Tod Collins #3. Brunell isn't happy about this. Gibbs said decision was made unanimously but mostly by himself. Live now on 980 AM in DC.

Brunell has played pretty lousy for the most part and at 36, his skills are only going to decline. I think this is the right move for the Redskins.

The way he's mumbling and bumbling through the announcement, you can tell he didn't want to.
Snyder yanking the chain? Oh, and it's about time they did this. |

How funny. Zaben asked Brunell yesterday if he would step down if it meant a chance to see how Campbell would do for the future. Brunell said that was a dumb question and that he was concentrating on the now and that he felt he was still capable of playing at a high level. Ought to be interesting though to see how the team responds. Romo has ignited the Cowboys so i wonder how the Skins will respond.

Brunell is concentrating on the now? What "now" is there for the Skins.
All those free agents. All that money... Too bad Snyder couldn't buy any instant chemistry ain't it? |

Okay...
The call in shows are off the hook. There's a lot of cynicsm with this move. The speculation is that Snyder called this move as a marketing ploy to get interest up in the team for the remainder of the season. There's a string of home games coming up. The thinking is that Todd Collins isn't 'sexy' for the locals, so Jason is #1. Look for a sudden supply of Jason Campbell Jerseys on sale at the stadium, $99 to $250. Jason "bobbleheads" will hit the stands at $16.99 each. ![]() Last edited by Circle Orange; 11-13-2006 at 05:55 PM.. |

Brunell's a weakling...and his aging legs only exacerbate the problem.

It might also have something to do with the fact that Campbell is the future at that position and right now is prime for some seasoning. Brunell's done, Collins isn't the answer... |

It's the right move. Their season is done and they need to find out of Campbell is the real answer at QB or if need to look at that position again next offseason.

There's a reason fans here don't trust the Redskins organization. There are two hot rumors going already according to local sources...that the Skins will look at either Leftwich or Mark Bulger as potential qb candidates. Campbell playing six games (not beyond) affects the return of the trade and compensation for the Skins. (I'm not sure how) Be wary, very wary of anything out of Redskin park. Fans are calling Gibbs a tool, and ex-redskins are chiming in now. The Campbell deal could be the biggest swerve this season.

Yikes. The Skins are going nowhere, that isn't the same as the Broncos. Dallas was struggling at the time and their QB had been around for 3+ years and knew the system, also not the same as the Broncos. Let's be real here. If Shanahan replaced Plummer with Cutler right now, you'd have a hard time finding just five players on the team that would agree with that move.

The HC pulled the plug on an aging athletic QB that has his flaws for the one waiting in the wings. Of course its not the same situation, but this is a copy cat league and one goes down sometimes many follow. Like head coach firings, of course they are all different situations, but when a string of them happens, they are all getting fired for different reasons (besides losing).

Total lunacy continues. John Jensen, one of the offensive linemen threatened Zaben ON THE AIR when he asked questions regarding the quarterback change. He got defensive about Brunell, and basically called out Zabe. Jensen got grilled all day by fans and Brian Mitchell on the B-Mitch show...it's a circus. Totally knuckleheaded and stupid. B-Mitch says the problem with this team is that they're too concerned with what everyone is saying about them rather than studying the playbook. A few days ago Jensen was told comments made about him by Bill Parcells. Parcells said he wasn't the same player (he isn't). The show was so out of control callers were threatening Jensen right back, warning that someone might break his thumbs again and it wouldn't be on the football field. All this following the story that Brunell was crying on the team bus for losing his starting position. And Gibbs clearly isn't crazy about putting Campbell in. He made more issue about Brunell losing his starting job than Jason starting. And consider...Brunell is 2ND on the depth chart.
"I want Mark to step back and catch a breath of air...I don't know, we'll see what happens." Yeah, a ringing endorsement if ever I heard one. ![]() |

Here's aomething that nobodies talked about yet. How about a trade with the skins Plummer for Brunell and a 2nd during the next offseason.

Where are they getting this money from? Last year, before the labor deal was reached and the cap went up by like 8 or 9 million, it was reported that they were in such bad shape that no matter how many restructurings they did, there would still have to be a massive bloodbath. And then they get rescued with the labor deal and the cap goes up...fine, I can understand how you can keep your roster together somewhat with the new breathing room, but I can't see how 8/9 million of space in a single year allows them to basically keep everyone and then go out and give huge bonuses to Andre Carter and those wide recievers etc. I also read last year that in one of their restructures, Portis agreed to cut his 05 salary in exchange for not only moving it more so to 06 and 07, but an actual raise as well in addition to the money that was moved from 05 to those years. And now they want to be a player for Bulger or Lefty? That's going to be a big bonus....I mean come on, sooner or later there has to be a huge cap tidal wave that is going to wipe them out. I'm sitting here every summer waiting for this tidal wave to hit them.....how are they still operating under the cap? I mean, the piper has to be paid, all these things have to take effect pretty soon, don't they? It just has to. And they have very few draft picks, too.
