White is in, yellow out
Shortly after he went down with a high ankle sprain in early December, Fleury got a letter from an eye doctor in Ottawa with charts and an explanation of why Fleury's signature yellow pads gave shooters an advantage. Fleury listened. Yesterday, before and during the morning skate, gleaming white new leg pads, blocker and glove made their debut. "It's a big different look," coach Michel Therrien said. "I was wondering if we have a new goalie." Fleury asked around and came to believe the theory that pads in white have the illusion of looking bigger than pads of the same size in darker colors. "There's more and more goalies wearing white these days," Fleury said. "The guys tell me it makes it look a little bigger. "It's weird, but it's not too much different." Fleury said it takes "maybe two weeks if I practice every day" to break in a new set of pads. Therrien hinted that Fleury might be ready to return before the white pads are broken in. "He's getting closer and closer. We'll see after the weekend," he said. ![]() ![]() |

PIT 5 MTL 4
Three more points for the league leading scorer, Geno. Very entertaining game. Penguins tied for first in the Atlantic...a point back of Ottawa for first overall in the east.

OTT 4 PIT 3 (OT)
Ugh. This one will be hard to get over. We were up 3-0 and Ottawa was self destructing, turning the puck over repeatedly, we could have been up 5 or 6-0 easily but stupid Sykora couldnt hit the net all night despite Geno creating like a million perfect chances for him. We never should have lost this game, very tough to take. Feel bad for Geno, he created a ton of chances tonight for other players but they ended up flubbing every single one (esp. Sykora) and Geno ended up off the scoresheet as a result. He was dominating today, though. He's really playing out of this world.

nick kypreos on sportsnet just said that the penguins might trade malkin and have talked to one team in the west.
why? because he says the pens are aware that he'll demand 9 or 10 million on his next contract... they may not want to pay $20M to two players (crosby). http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=483708 |

The Atlanta Thrashers have traded sniper Marian Hossa and winger Pascal Dupuis to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for prospect Angelo Esposito, forwards Colby Armstrong and Erik Christensen and a first-round pick.

Now we'll see if they can be the first all-star team since the Wings to live up to their expectations. This is surprising but glad he's in the East. |

IMO, the Pens gave up too much for Hossa. This isn't the Red Wings, or Lanche, Rangers, Flyers, or Dallas who will pay to keep their good players. This is the, "let's groom them until they want a big deal that we surely won't pay" Pens. The Pens will pay Cindy but I had doubts whether they would pay Malkin what he will command. Now Hossa who will be a FA. Maybe it's either Malkin or Hossa. I gotta think Pen fans want Malkin over Hossa. So this seems to be a rent a player move. If that's the case, WOW DID THEY OVERPAY!!!!

I really don't think they gave up too much. Colby Armstrong is the only one i'm sad to really see go. Angelo is a prospect, no one knows how good he is going to be - Christiansen is not much more than a 3rd liner/utility player.

They signed Whitney to a big deal. Crosby got a big deal. They are locking guys up in accordance to the time frame to the new arena. I don't see how they'd keep Hossa, Crosby, Malkin, Staal & Fluery..... |

Don't forget the first rounder. They are making a serious run at the cup this year. i can't fault the Pens for that and if you are a Pens fan, you gotta be thrilled with what your front office is telling you. As an outsider though, I think you are 1 or 2 more years away from being ready to win the cup. If this is a rental, it is a costly rental.

I'm not worried about the draft pick or Espisito. Both are unknown values. I just don't know about this move. |

Championship.
(And no Philly, this is not a rental. Shero would not have done it if he couldnt work out the parameters of a long term deal.) Sid is stoked I bet, but is probably personally hurting because Army was his best friend on the team.
