After watching the Defense play today. I must say, they didn't play poorly. Missed assignments and mental mistakes is one thing, being overmatched by a big bully is another. Now I've said all along our offense would explode, and it did, but i didn't know the Defense was still this handicapped.

So, Mike Shanahan said it best before the game even started: The offense dictates the defense's packages, thus they can play against your weakest package and expose its weakness.

Denver's starters on the D-line are poor pass rushers, and their third down package's small and overmatched. The No-huddle offense kept one package on the field and took advantage of that. Denver going into this off-season must address the D-line issue, they must have a capable front four in the pass rush on all downs. Coyer also needs to go back to the drawing board. We need to be more dynamic than that, they played man coverage nearly all of the second half and when they blitzed, it was completely man coverage, and very rarely did the defense try to jam Indy's receivers.

Trying to blame the game on DW or Plummer's fumble would be picking on the small matters when the big one's in your face. Plummer for instance, was tackled and stripped hard while going down, similar to what Urlacher did to Edge or what Wilson did to Droughns.

As for DW, he was completely beat by the fourth quarter, but it started off with double moves, and a lot of them combined with nice throws. I saw good coverage on a lot of those completions, you can't expect much tighter coverage on Wayne. But maybe, good pressure and jamming the receivers on the line would've helped. However it all goes back to whether or not you have dependable pressure.

The pressure was there, not different from the rest of the games this season, but it was inconsistent, like other games this season. You just saw the colts take advantage of that.

With all this said.... More aggressive and dynamic Defensive play calling could've made the difference today. Although if i were Coyer, I might even throw a game away so that when i meet this team in the playoffs, my blitzing will be more of a suprise than not.

The thing about this team that they've proven over the past 1 1/2 years is that they bounce back quickly. A year ago they lost the opener and then won 5 straight, lost to go to 5-2 and then won 4 straight. They're in the same spot now as they were a year ago, so if history is any indicator, they won't stay down long.

Well said. And even if we Chiefs fans are happy, I'm pretty sure you're D will bounce back pretty storng. Trust me, we know exactly how you feel after a "can't stop the Colts day," we've been there. You folks have too much raw talent not to bounce back from this and be even better..

We were overmatched. No shame. Its up to the personell staff to keep getting more players. Obviously getting Javon was a good move, Jake playing back on par with last year, and it shows that with Javon this offense has a chance to win us the game. But we must improve the Defense, specifically - the D-line.
