Default Jake Plummer is the worst QB ever

Now that I have you attention I would just like to say congrats on the fast start and I think you guys have the best team in the AFC. I am a huge Saints fan and frequent www.saintsreport.com. If you ever need any Saints info or just want to visit another good forum stop by.

Anyways, I would love to get some feedback from you guys on Brandon Marshall. I have followed him since the second half of his senior year and think you guys got a steal. I am actually quite shocked he didn't get his first catch until this week but I have a feeling you guys will see a lot more of it. I actually drafted him in a deep keeper league and have kept him on my roster. What kind of progress has he made? Was the injury he had early in the year holding him back or has he just been riding the pine so far?

Another thing I would like to ask. I have watched a couple Broncos games this year and feel like Shannahan has really had the offense throttled down. Is he just holding back to let the defense win the game? Is it because he is scared of Jake's next move? Is it because he hasn't had to really open it up so he is saving a lot for the bigger games coming up? Is it because you guys have played a bunch of good defenses and he has been trying to play it safe? Or is it a combination of everything above? Would love to hear some thoughts.

Anyway, congrats on the fast start and hope we can see you guys in Miami.

Well, the injury didn't help...but he's Javon Walkers backup, so he hasn't had alot of field time.

If you really want to get someone's attention, call the thread, "Jake is the greatest QB Ever!!!"

As for Marshall, I love his size, and the knee injury definitely hampered him early on, as was stated....

My friend is a Saints fan as well (crazy kid)

B MArsh is fitting in nicely here. He moved up the depth chart quickly turing TC and preseaon, but he got hurt in the first game.

I think he will be a great third weapon in the future.

Plummer rarely makes it to his third read, so I dont plan on anything big from Marshall until next season.

Welcome, and as RDSU said, saying Plummer is the best QB ever would get more a rise around here these days.

Wow. Did you ever get our attention! When I first read the title, I was like, "He DID NOT just say that!" And then I reread it, and I was like, "NO WAY!" It was, like, really controversial! So I read it, and I was like, "Duh! He totally got me!" You were like SO busting on Jake Plummer!

Most folks have answered the Marshall question. On the second, that really is atough question. We as fan cannot give you a absolute truth on why the offense is struggling.

There are number of theories, from the new offense coordinators are taking time to jell, to new offense player are still finding thier rhythm, to Shanahan has a lot of trust in defense that he willing to play a field position game, that opponents DC have figured out how to stop Plummer, to Shanahan doesn't trust Plummer ability right now, or the popular one Plummer cannot take the pressure of Cutler. Take your pick.

I personally think that the offense has been governed down because of the way the defense has been playing. I also think Plummer will explode soon (possibly this week) and will get on a roll. I really like Cutler and really like him at Vandy. I live in Ms so I did see a good bit of him in college and you guys got a steal. If he played for any of the major schools or was in any other draft year he would have been the first guy off the board but I also think you guys have a team that can make a run and you don't turn that over to a rookie unless your losing games.

Just be careful what you guys ask for because once the plug is pulled on Jake he is done. He will not be the same if he has to come back in if Cutler makes too many rookie mistakes. Just look in Dallas to see the proof.

I guess the second question is a popular discussion in Denver but I will say this. It is a lot easier to fix a sluggish offense than it is to fix a bad defense and you guys have the weapons and offensive line to pull things together.

About every week? How about multiple times per day!

Jake hasn't been throttled, he has choked all by his lonesome. We passed 41times Sunday.

Brandon hurt his knee and was slow to recover. Javon Walker took himself out and for Brandon to take the TD because Javon knew the pattern would be open. Pretty impressive for a first year starter. We have a great organization top to bottom, and you might have a clue it isn't the waterboy or kicker.

Champ said he had first round talent before he sprained the knee...he's just reappearing...Jake tosses ducks 4 out of 5 times so it's hard to gauge. We are pretty optimistic about his future here, and it's still possible he could be turned into a TE ala Sharpe, altho he wants to play WR, the re-emergence of the 3-4 means you have to play more double TE, at least in my opinion.

We don't have to really make him a TE as much as maybe put him in against Pears, filling in for ACL Lepsis. All we really need is a shoulder push to keep the RDE from going around the edge IMO. Then he can clear underneath behind the reciever and find a hole in the zone IMO.

Just a shove on the outside shoulder and he's fine to go into a shorter pattern. Damn...I should get paid for this advice.

I see Brandon's future as a hybrid WR/TE in passing situations.

The fact that VY is sucking doesn't surprise me at all..he had to learn to take the ball from under center for christ sake. He also played for a dominant team at Texas. Worst pick, ever. Well, except for Leaf.

Marshall should have a good career if he can keep that knee or any other boo boo out of the mix.

Damn, actually sounds like you know what your talking about. I do agree that the dual TE is a better option against a 3-4 defense becuase the outsided lb's tend to be better pass rushers and chase and tackle type guys than pass cover guys. This would allow your TE to create mismatches against less athletic OLB's. I could see Marshall doing this and being very good at it as long as he isn't asked to gain a lot of weight and block much outside of chipping. The only way defenses would be able to defend it is to bring safety help over the top which would further open the running game or go to a nickel far more than any defensive coordinator would like. However, with Rod Smith getting older he would be primed to take over the #2 job in the future and Marshall plays much faster than his 40 time and he didn't exactly run slow. He reminds me a lot of our own sleeper TE/WR in New Orleans but after Colston came out and lit up training camp from the WR spot the TE talk quickly dissapeared.

I didn't realize Jake threw 41 times last week. That sounds like Shannahan was trying to get him going before this weeks game. BTW, thank Vegas for that gift of -4.5 against the Browns, what an easy play.

Try his 56.5 passing average.

I said SINCE Leaf.

Talkin' Heads loved the pick, and I said he would be a dissapointment.

Welcome to the board! Catchy thread title. I like. Actually, if I ever wanted to read up on the Saints I prefer your board the past few years.

Now here's the question. Some of us on this board think Reggie Bush was a waste of a pick and some of us think Reggie is a BUST. Since you're a saints fan and has more inside info and follow the Saints more than we do, tell us your opinion about Reggie and what the future holds.

BTW, i think Brees was a great signing and it didn't cost you a 2nd round pick, unlike the dolphins with Cpep.

Reggie Bush is far from a bust and he is far from living up to his expectations but I think a lot of people forget he is still just a rookie and one that left college a year early.

Off the field I wouldn't trade Reggie for any three players. He has done so much for the city in such a short time. He is part of the hype that has allowed the Saints to once again fill the city of New Orleans with joy and if he never plays another down in the NFL I will always remember him for that.

On the field the Saints could never line him up at RB again and just put him at WR, KR, PR and he would justify the #1 pick. The guy is a freak when it comes to catching the ball, he has dropped just one pass but made up for it by snagging at least a one handed catch a game. I don't understand how many people are discounting the fact that he leads the league in 3rd down receptions and is in the top 10 in catches regardless of the down.

IMO the fantasy football craze has started judging players by their fantasy numbers and if you do that with Bush then you might as well call him a bust. He hasn't scored many TD's, he hasn't had any huge rushing days and hasn't had any 100 yard receiving days. If you want to see the impact reggie has had then look no further then Drew Brees' 3rd down numbers, they are amazing.

What you haven't seen on ESPN are the plays in which somebody is running wide open while Reggie is double teamed. When he motions out of the backfield defenses key on him, when he lines up in different formations you can literally see the fear and confusion he creates in the defense, nothing like I have witnessed in the past.

IMO Payton has done an outstanding job using Reggie but I also believe he could do better. I really think Deuce is Reggie's best friend and if we were to run Deuce just a couple more times a quarter it would really wear down defenses to let Reggie hit the home run in the 4th quarter.

You will begin to see the highlight plays that you saw from him at USC but not until defenses get tired of being burned by Horn, Coltson, Deuce and any other weapon we put on the field, that may be never but if it is he is still worthy of the pick because it gives so many mismatches to the other players.

Welcome to the Mane!

It's nice to see the Saints winning some games. You poor bastiches have suffered as much or more than anyone.

A question - - what's the deal with Joe Horn? Looked like he was a forgotten man until the last game, then BOOM! Was that an aberration, or do you think he'll be a factor again?
