I won't believe it until the pick is announced, but I certainly hope so.

Well, the Avs are on the clock and Cherepanov is sitting there, staring them in the face.

If their past drafts are any indicator, they'll take the best player available and Cherepanov fits that description here.

TAKE HIM!!!!

God dammit.

They drafted for need rather than taking the BPA. **** me.

Shattenkirk, another smallish, offensive minded defenseman. I don't like this at all.

Kevin Shattenkirk is an offensive defenseman who will jump in offensively like a fourth forward. He is an excellent skater with great acceleration and speed, he has very good puckhandling skills and has great anticipation. Although not a physical player, he can sometimes surprise with a good hit. He is solid defensively, but he sometimes gets caught on costly plays. Picking Shattenkirk in the top-10 represents a bit of a risk, but he has incredible potential and could be a star in the NHL.

Shattenkirk wasn't a total surprise pick, the surprise is that the Avs have always taken the BPA and this is a big shift in draft philosophy.

I'm disappointed. I would have liked to see the Avs go for the home run pick with Cherepanov or even Esposito. If they were going to take a defenseman, I'd have much rather seen them go for someone like Petrecki who's a big, hard hitting, stay at home type.

I'm starting to get worried that the Avs are going to sit on their hands, for the most part, this offseason.

Re-signing Arnason when it wasn't really necessary, drafting for need rather than going BPA, this all screams of them going mostly status quo.

I could be wrong, it's just a feeling I've got. It's disturbing that Giguere was quoted a few weeks ago as saying that most of the Avs lineup is already set. Not an encouraging sign.

Esposito to the Pens. Wow, great pick.

That's an offensive juggernaut for years to come in Pittsburgh.

Congrats SOCAL....

Quote:
Angelo Esposito, once considered without a doubt the top prospect of the 2007 Draft, had a subpar year in Quebec where his development as a hockey player really didn't go as expected. Still, Esposito is among the most talented players in the draft and with the right among of work and determination, he'll be an NHL star. A great skater with excellent hands, Angelo knows how to create scoring opportunities. He will score goals and create plays, but his hockey sense sometimes looks deficient; he often miss open players or make doubtful decisions. His defensive game and physical play are inexistent and he is somewhat inconsistent. With all the negatives that come with him, Esposito is still an amazing prospect and well worth the risk if developped well by the team that drafts him.

Anyone that followed Minnesota or NCAA hockey got any analysis on Jim O'Brien?

Also, Logan Couture is going to be a great player. I had the pleasure of watching him play for the 67s. He'll be a future captain, great all around player.

Thanks, and the Caps turned around today and traded the 2nd to Philly for a 3rd this year and another '08 2nd.

Not real thrilled with the first round pick, but their round 2 was decent IMO. Plus the fourth round pick of Brad Malone was an absolute steal. He was ranked 58 overall by TSN.
