No more draft pick compensation for losing free agents, and bonus money will now be slotted by draft pick. Best part? EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. I take it this means no more waiting until the Winter Meetings for FA to begin. This really puts the screws on a guy like Billy Beane though...ouch. |

There is a lot of problems behind trying to salary cap MLB. A salary floor would do more for competative balance than a ceiling would.
Oh, and Fox Sports' website disgarees with this, their source tells them that draft pick compensation will be revamped, not removed entirely, and they mention nothing about pick slotting. Both would be necessary to balance the draft, but I doubt both will happen in the same bargaining agreement. Last edited by Drek; 10-21-2006 at 07:59 PM.. |
