CHRIS KUPER!!!
Default Shell, Walsh a clumsy coaching combination

http://www.realfootball365.com/nfl/a...lsh021006.html

"I don't feel like I've been in retirement at all."

"We've been doing all of the technology that's been in all of the Sega games and all of those products -- all of the playbook stuff."

In late July, Tom Walsh made sure it was clear to all.

He had a friend who wrote the coding for a video football game, on a platform whose highest-selling console debuted in 1989.

All at once, the city of Oakland breathed a sigh of relief.

Their Raiders were in good hands.

Yeah, right.

Three games into the '06 season, Walsh has shown his mastery of "all of the playbook stuff" by generating 27 points, 531 total yards and 19 sacks against. The Raiders, consequently, have dropped their first three games of the season, including a devastating 24-21 defeat on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns .

In the team's most efficient offensive outing, starting quarterback Andrew Walter completed just 9-of-23 passes for 68 yards against the injury-laden Browns' secondary, despite establishing a daunting rushing attack early. With Jerry Porter deactivated for the third straight game, Ronald Curry emerged as the team's leading receiver, with just 27 yards on three catches.

Meanwhile, on the sidelines, head coach Art Shell was emotionless as ever.

"That's who I am," Shell said prior to the game. "People have said to me, 'You don't show any emotions.' I am who I am. I can't be anybody else. I can't be yelling and screaming if I'm not that type of guy."

"I can't be looking up at the scoreboard, doodling on my clipboard and throwing a red flag simultaneously," he should have added.

Shell, with just over 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, failed to challenge a blatantly poor ball spot, later citing the almighty booth's failure to relay the message to him down on the sidelines. Rather than attempt a game-tying field goal or QB sneak on fourth down, LaMont Jordan was handed the ball, abruptly dropped two yards deep in the backfield by Orpheus Roye. In the subsequent drive, Cleveland would control the ball for over seven minutes.

"You know, all of this so-called bad press that you get from outside sources...it's like someone is writing a lot of fiction," Tom Walsh said three months ago.

Prove it.

I remember saying during the offseason that the Fade were going to be reduced to interviewing local high school coaches to fill the vacancies that Shell and the innkeeper eventually did. I was kidding at the time, but now I'm starting to think that they might have been better off if that'd actually happened. Things certainly wouldn't be any worse.

I think that if the NFL expanded again, that new team would be in better shape than the Raiders.

Fisher will have better offers. Maybe Giants if they under achieve, maybe the phins if the players revolt on Sabin, maybe Dallas if Tuna has had enough.

Nah. Considering Walsh's comments in the article, I think their best bet is to hire someone among this group.

The Raiders are so pathetic, I almost feel sorry for them.

I can't think of a nastier thing to say than that.

I honestly believe I could coach that catastrophe better than the last half dozen. They are going thru coaching stfffs faster than paper plates. First thing I do is clean the plate completely. I mean completely. I have never seen a team so devoid of talent.

BTW, Fargas had a 48 yard run Slappy. What did Pierce do last week? At any rate, the whole team needs dismantling.

I could at least have Al shot up with Vicodin and delegate some authority and get rid of the crap the is so pervasive, including Moss. If he is the "Missing Link" then anthropologists are out of a job.

Watching Oakland coaches is like watching a slackjawed hillbilly at a physics convention. Shell is so clueless it's literally hysterical.

I don't think even Lou Holtz would take that job.

Fisher isn't going to take a job there. We can find a spot for him here if he wants one. I don't care what stupid title they give him. Assistant to the assistant...whatever. Shanahan and Fisher are friends and he would be an addition. The last thing he needs is another beat down in Oakland to totally throw his career into the dumpster.

Walter managed a fantastic 29 rating with the great Moss. I can only hope they bottle Crazy Al's head for the next half century. I can't imagine any legitimate coach that would go there.

Art Shell isn't even a legitimate coach. He thinks using motion if for birds. Motion has been used for 40 years. He's nothing but an old school offensive line coach that can't get Gallery to give a rats ass. Great coaching. #2 pick and he's a turnstile.

I enjoy rivalries...Kansas City, San Diego can give us a fight or even win. At any rate, I don't really give a RatBird's ass either way. Getting them twice won't make any difference in the division, just the conference.

BTW, this is the most talented team Brett Favre has ever had the privelege of playing behind. We will tell you so as soon as he has spinal reconstruction.

I never understood Shell going back to coach the Raiders. If an employer kicked me out I sure as hell wouldn't go crawling back (and as a last option at that).

He may have had a winning record before, but I think he's probably just a lousy head coach. Something that seems to escape a lot of the pundits out there.
