He played saftey and WR in college, also some QB in HS. Hixon was mainly going to be used as a STeamer as Morgan will be. Our return game is about as good as our punting was a few years ago and it's causing us to lose field postion. DWill is too valuable to us as a CB to risk on returns and would tire him out too much, Champ was a excellent returner in college but is also to great a risk. |

Marshall is an athletic freak. He is 6-4 and 1/2, 229, has been timed at 4.53,4.52,4.45 and 4.49 prior to the draft. He had a vertical jump of 37". He was H.S. state champion in the triple jump.
He was a 3 yr starter at WR and volunteered to play safety in his JR year to help the team. He led the team in tackles that year. He went back to WR in his senior year and caught74 passes for 1,195 yds and 11 TDs. He was MVP of the Hula Bowl with 11 catches for 230 yds and 3 TDs. He was described as "a man amongst boys". He did well in preseason and was being considered for #3 WR before he got hurt even tho he was a rookie. I don't think we should cut him yet. |

I"m all about giving the guy a chance, if he wasn't injured and just been sucking Watts style I would be the first one to help him pack his bags out of town. But it's only the 3rd game of the year and he's coming off a knee injury. JW had a whole year and a pre season to heal...he dropped a few in that first game too.
The first TD Marshall scores or big 3rd down conversion he grabs..all will be forgotten. |

Champ said early on that he couldn't believe that Marshall wasn't a first round draft pick. I think he might be a pretty credible source. The kid injured his MCL and I don't think he was even active vs. St. Louis (I may be wrong about that). He had one very difficult pass thrown his way vs. KC. |

This is a goofy discussion, which is why I feel compelled to join.
By this season's stats, I think Carolina should dump Steve Smith as well. He's sucking it up worse than Plummer. Marshall should come along, but as mentioned earlier, not if we are afraid to pass. However, I think we should be airing out to Javon several times a game, then the new guys can find a breath in the underneath routes. Right now, we are passing it to a double covered Rod Smith instead of letting it fly towards our speed guys. Either Plummer needs to grow his balls back (picks or not), or let the Rookie Rocket have a chance. No one will look good if we only try on obvious passing downs and obvious routes - we're not even giving them a chance! |

Let's don't forget, not a lot of rookies have started, much less played much at all since Shanahan has been the coach. So rookies getting any playing time is rare and there's probably been a reason why this has been the case with Shanahan. Most rookies are inconsistent and still learning their teams' systems.

Actually, if you watch the replay, the corner made a good play and knocked it down.

Run it's course? It's week two? How much has Marshall even seen the field? Isn't he our fourth option?
Scheffler and Dumerville are the only rookie on the team (aside from Cutler) that I'm expecting anything of right now. We need both of them to perform if we can reasonably expect to win this season. |

Plummer's passes do look ugly at times, but part of the problem is miscommunication between QB and receiver. Rookie receivers CERTAINLY can take part of that blame. Plummer would have completed the TD pass to Scheffler if Scheffler had turned back inside just a bit.

Not so much, Jake has been under pressure.
The throws he has made when not under pressure have been the worst. The 2 on the goal line last week. The FLOATER down the middle and the Roll out and Force to Smith were just flat out dumb plays. That being said this thread is about Marshall. The one ball I have seen throw to him was a sailer. I was just pointing out that How can you judge Marshall when Jake has a 36.8 passer rating. |

I agree the "O" is a system. A system needs all parts to function. No one part has been real good. However Plummer has been really bad, the 4 picks have come when there was no or very little pressure on him. He has made horrible decisions. After watching the games again, when he does make a good decision, his throws have been really off mark. |

Yes ... too many. I feel bad, because some of my favorite posters took me seriously. I thought things like saying "the Marshall Experiment," and "no wonder we traded for Quincy Morgan" would be dead giveaways ... but I guess I had forgotten how low-brow some of these threads really are. I was trying to be an "absurdist" as a response to Taco John's "Was Scheffler Just a Mirage?" absurdist thread. He acknowledged his was a joke/absurdist thread too I think, when he moved both of these to the "Butt" Thursday AM...
Just to be clear. WHAT I REALLY THINK: Javon/Marshall/Scheffler = 10+ years together. If we're really, REALLY lucky, maybe similar to Shannon/Rod/Eddie Mac. But that's pretty optimistic. Sorry to everyone ... : |
