Default Lelie Trade Draft Pick Question

What is our best payoff with the pick/picks from the Redskins. I thought we could only move up to the #20 spot and swap our first out, or we faced a potential third and fourth.

What is the best case scenario and worst case scenario with this pick?

I remember an article back when the trade was made that said that there are something like 900 different scenarios for the compensation the Broncos will receive. We really won't know until the season's over.

I think the majority of those scenarios are the compensation Denver will receive if both teams make the playoffs and Denver picks lower.

I think it's basically this-
Skins miss the playoffs- Denver gets their 3rd this year and 4th next year
Skins finish better than the Broncos- same as above
Skins and Denver both make the playoffs, Denver has a better record- tons of scenarios on what the compensation will be

So maybe someone ought to research what happens if the skins make the playoffs, and we don't. Or if Both teams don't but Washington has a better record than the Broncos.

?

Denver would just get the Skins 3rd this year and 4th next year in both scenarios.

whats the story about swapping the first round pick with them? I thought it was pick 1-19 cannot be swapped, if they finish as the 20th placed team then we swap picks. Is that right?

I think #21 is the highest they can move to, but the rest is right

It doesn't look good for the skins, I doubt they'll make the playoffs

Denver only swaps first-round picks if the difference is great enough to be a third rounder and the Redskins are picking #21 or later. More than likely, Denver will be receiving a third rounder this year and a fourth rounder in the future. I'd like to move up in the first-round, but who knows. The Redskins are on pace to go 0-2 to start of the season, they're not looking very pretty right now.

I think the best case scenario would be for the Redskins to not make the playoffs, and we get a third rounder in the upper half of the round. We'd be getting a future fourth rounder as well.

There's also a scenario in there that would probably allow for us to move up a spot or two in the first round, but still get a first-rounder as well, which would be nice.

Who knows, either way we're getting good value, if the Redskins continue to suck -- that'll still help us.

Seconded.

An extra first day pick will work just fine for me. It can be used as ammo to move up should the Broncos see the need to.

Bingo.

Having the #68 this year helped us move up from what, #16 to #11? If it was in the later part of the first, it'd probably move us 8 spots or so. Also, having that extra fourth is always good too.

It's way too early to even make me talk strategy, but the kind of players we need on the team and where the depth is in this draft, Denver could stand to trade down and accumulate picks. If we're not picking Top 15, Top 10 -- we're not getting Moses or Adams. There are a lot of guys who would be solid defensive line picks in the late-first to mid-second round. We'll have the ammo to do something great there.

Also, I see wide receiver as a need, and there will be a lot of talent on the first day at that position. We could stand to get a receiver who could also return the ball as well. Steve Breaston comes to mind, but I think he's a late first day pick, probably early second.

God, now I popped a chubby talking about the draft.

But I third that, the 3rd and the 2008 4th sounds good.

If we really needed Crosby, that extra third would go a long way in getting him.

Also, I don't think we have a fourth this year, that went to Atlanta as well in part of the deal with Abraham, etc.

I'm still of the mind that the Broncos should go with the BPA at either DE, S or RB. If there's someone they absolutely love, this should give them the means to jump up a few spots and secure that player.

Adams & Moses will be gone by the time they're picking (barring a nasy collapse). They should be within shouting distance of Woodley, Landry, Meriweather, Carriker, Abiamiri, Irons & Bush.

Get one of them and Mason Crosby on day one and I'll be a happy Bronco fan.

Not a huge fan of Carriker, I think he'll go to a 3-4 team in need of an end. Sort of like Marcus Spears did a few years back. I like Woodley, a lot actually. He has a solid game, but I am just really enamored with Adams and Moses. . . and everyone after that seems kind of average to me.

I'd love Landry, WA and I disagree on us getting a safety. I want one early, he doesn't. He claims that they're not important enough in this defense to merit a first round selection, but I disagree. Merriweather and Landry can play the pass and run effectively, and even Griffin out of Texas as well.

Kenny Irons is going to go before we pick, and Michael Bush probably won't be a Bronco. I just don't see a huge need at RB like everyone else does, unless the Bell's totally suck it up. I'd like an every down back just like the rest of us, but the RBBC has worked for us.

Abiarimi is actually an interesting player, don't think he'll be a first rounder though, just a feeling. Like him a lot though.

I think Tim Crowder is a really good fit for this team, he's good against the run and pass. Not an elite pass rusher, but a guy who can do very well against the run in our system and still put up respectable pass rushing numbers.

I'd love Crosby, but I definitely think he's going in the early second.

I like Marcus Thomas and Brandon Mebane as DT's too -- I'm a little higher on Mebane than others, but I think he merits late-first round consideration.

GOD DAMN, NFL DRAFT. 223 DAYS AWAY.

Round One: Tim Crowder, DE -- Texas
Round Two: Brandon Mebane, DT -- California
Round Three: Package both picks to move up and get Mason Crosby, K -- Colorado.

YEAH.

Yeah, I don't know why you'd want a kicker that can consistently kick it out of the end zone and will probably hit close to a 70 yard FG at some point during this season. That's just stupid to lock up the kicking position for the next decade.

Only if Denver's picking in the Top 5 in the 1st, and I think there will be a playoff team who will pull the trigger in the bottom of the 1st if they think their other holes are shored up.

Mason's going higher than Nugent did, which is I believe top 50. . . (47 if I remember correctly) -- there's no way in Hell we get Crosby unless we trade up. I agree with you whole heartedly, he's gonna go high. We'll probably have to ship our #2 and a third of ours to get in reaching distance of him.
