Default Branch to Seattle

Per Dan Patrick, Dion Branch to Seattle for next year's first round choice

Branch traded
The Deion Branch holdout is over, but Branch isn’t returning to the Patriots. Branch, the fifth-year receiver, has been traded to the Seattle Seahawks for a first-round draft choice today.

The 5-foot-9, 193-pound Branch was entering the final year of the five-year contract he signed as a rookie in 2002. Unhappy with that deal, he held out of training camp.

Then, in late August, the Patriots gave Branch permission to negotiate with other clubs, and the Seahawks and Jets made contract offers. But a trade with New England couldn’t be consummated by the Patriots’ imposed deadline of Sept. 1 and Branch remained with the Patriots.

Branch and his representatives then filed two grievances against the club. The grievances hadn’t been heard before today’s trade.
I love this deal for Seattle. Solid trade...solid.

Late first round pick for 6 years of Branch. They now easily have the deepest WR corps in the league, and Jackson isn't really seriously injured.

Man that would be pretty big for the Hawks, Branch, DJ, and Burleson.

Nope, Tim Ruskell is, and he's made tons of good moves already in his short tenure.

Really the only need positions for them is interior OL and backup TE.

Alright! I kept Deion in reserve on my Fanstasy team and he'll do well with Hassleback in that offense.

Their 1st rounder will be one of the very last picks, so it is basically like a high 2nd rounder

I don't understand how any owner of Jackson, Burleson, or Branch can be happy about this.

Branch is only worth a 1st rounder if he's playing in the superbowl every week...look at his numbers...no way is worth a 1st rounder.

The Hawks WAY overpaid for a WR who has never broken the 1000 yard barrier in a season.

Hawks are going for the superbowl now. They must think their window to win the superbowl is roughly 3 years. 1st round pick? Seems pretty high, but they could definately use Branch now. Jackson, Burleson, Ingram, and now Branch. Not bad.

Why

Owners of Jackson and Branch should be pleased. Owners of Engram and Burleson just watched their guys knocked back on the depth chart

Seattle really struggled yesterday with running Alexander. The pass was there and you just know Holmgren is going to chuck it ala Martz if their revised OL can not get on track for Alexander.

Seattle better win in the next two years because they're setting themselves up for a crash. First they pay a 29 year old running back a fortune. Now they drastically overpay for a number two receiver.
