I've started to see a clamour from Plummer's supporters that Shanahan is just using Jake wrong, and that's why he's struggling in big games. I don't understand this criticism, given that I think Jake would be battling for a job in Chicago with Griese had he decided to shun the Broncos and go in that direction. I think Jake owes a great deal to Shanahan right now.
So I'm curious to hear from this crowd that seems to think Shanahan is mis-using Plummer. What could Shanahan have done differently to better utilize Jake against Pittsburgh, and on opening day against the Rams. |

Jake is a great manager of games unless he has to come from behind and...

Jake has regressed with his passing talents in my oppinion. He literally cannot throw good mid to long range passes anymore. Without the boot he becomes very ineffective and cannot play from behind because our base passing offense is not good enough.

Your right TJ Shanny is misusing Jake. Shanny should be having Jake get Cutler water when he comes to the sidelines during timeouts.

Nothing against Rod Smith, but I have stated many times, I don't hero worship. He's obviously lost another step.
I hope Ms. Lilliy sits on the bench with that pinpoint Atlanta QB. |

I suppose we could have blocked with 8 more often, using the backs and TEs to chip the Ends and such, free releasing only 2 recievers into a pattern, but that would seriously hurt the passing game. There are only a limited number of 2 man route combinations and they are not really that hard to stop. So I can't really blame Shanny for not going to the extreme in pass protection. We obviously made some adjustments and we were able to get the run game going better and the pass pro got a little bit better as the game wore on.
Jake just really killed us a few times and at the most inoppurtune times. Hopefully he improves next week. We know he can be very effective in this offense, he just has to go out and do it against KC next week.

Rod didn't look bad today, the whole O sucked. Lets see how he is in the next couple of weeks before writing off a legend.

I'm still waiting on an answer to a question in one of the other threads. Namely, what does a QB learn standing on the sidelines. I was willing to support Jake as there were no better options and he is a servicable QB. That being said, you'll find no JP jersey's in my wardrobe. As I sat at the game today I had no confidence in Plummer. I was very confident in our defense stopping the rams. I was likewise confident in plummer screwing up. My chiefs fan buddy was with me and each new drive I was wagering with him how plummer would turn it over. It was some easy betting today. I'm done with plummer and fail to see how a rookie can make more/worse mistakes. That pass to Devoe was just painful. He was insanely open. The entire crowd knew it. Then here comes the slow butterfly lob from ol JP. But hey, he's our best option, right?

If Foster gave a rats ass to seal the bootleg he might have better luck. He was mugged on the only rollout we tried.
Now if Foster was occupying a DE, where was a TE to at least address a blitzing LB? That is what pisses me off about the nintendo offense. Jake rolled out and not one, but TWO players were all over him. |

I like that idea, but I want to make it clear that I am not one who believes that Shanahan is misusing Jake. Popps brought that up this past weekend when discussing the Pittsburgh game plan, which to me looked pretty similar to our gameplan against the Rams. I'm trying to understand the point of view, not advocate it... |

Yeap. We had to go to double TE's and keep them blocking, and a back, in the second half because Foster and others were getting abused. We eventually slowed down the pass rush but we only had 2 maybe 3 guys running routes. Looked like the Pittsburgh and Miami games all over, except the Rams supposedly have a bad defense. |

I got a pretty good laugh at watching Walker run of the field with a hurt finger. Boy did he let us down today. That drop was a FD and the one that he let hit his facemask would have been 6 points.

We moved a back in motion with 5 linemen. It didn't work more than once, and that was pure luck. Our run game was working just fine. What happened is we kept going to pass on second and 6. That was stupid. Tell me again how the offense got it's shiat together again. I saw alot of desertion of the running game for no reason. Jake wouldn't of thrown 3 picks or fumbled if we had run the ball. Tater might still of fumbled, but cmon...that's less than Jake throwing up balloons. I'm ready for a change. NOW. You think we win it all with Jay? This year? Plummer is awful sometimes, I know, but we don't go to Miami with Jay. |

Yeah, I've never understood why Mike keeps trying to make Jake into a pocket passer. The numbers overwhelmingly prove he's much better outside the pocket...why not a moving pocket? Shanny used him well last year in keeping a tight reign on him and the offense, but as we saw today, without that leash, he's not going to avoide the costly turnover when it counts.

I don't see any difference to be quite honest. What did Jake do last year that Cutler couldn't do this year? Jake is a game manager, not a game winner. If yu think Cutler doesn't have the experience to lead the team, well Jake DOES have the experience and STILL CAN'T lead the team. Of course Jay isn't up to full-speed right now, but Jake isn't up to full-speed EVER. I'd rather toss teh kid in there, knowing he'll make a few mistakes and learn from them. Then have jake in there who makes mistakes and could care less. Or at least act like he cares less. C'mon throwing to your comfort guy when he's got 3 men on him?!?!?!?! That's high school crap, not a 10 year Vet. |

as for jake being used wrong, i would like to see shanny include jake's legs in the playbook a bit more. especially when jake's getting pressured alot. a qb draw here or there could help to relieve some pressure in later plays. it might also remind jake that if rod is the only reciever in the area, and he's got three guys on him, then he can tuck the ball and take off every now and then. |
