Wait to the til after January there was a report that LCD prices were going to drop between 30 to 40%. Because of production overcapacity and better industry techniques.

And Alec if you gave up drinking and smoking stuff you can have a HD too, and became a spoiled American like the rest of us.

Not only can you watch them, if thats all you had you would. In fact, if they didnt broadcast a single Bronco game in Hi Def this year, every last one of you claiming you "cant watch Non - HD games" would be watching non - HD games.

Bunch of liars.

Oh smartypants, I did give up drinking about a year ago and I stopped smoking bud about a month ago.

Its not about being able to afford it. I can go get a HDTV right now, but I got better things to spend my money on...like things that will make me more money.

I dont mind spoiled Americans, most of my family is spoiled and, I am too in some regards. But I do call BULL**** that you people saying "I CANT WATCH NON-HD GAMES". Knowing damn sure good and well that if you are not able to watch a HD Bronco game and its on near you - say at a relatives house while on vacation or during a week where the Bronco game is not being televised in HD, you WILL watch it.

If not, I call bull**** on your fanship.

Ive seen HD, it is remarkable im not disputing that. But, judging by the HD snobs on this thread I can tell you right now its overrated. I dont care how many whiteheads are on some dude's face as Slap points out. Not so much that Im willing to fork over that much money at the moment. I'll let all you suckers spend the money first, and when the price comes down I'll get one.

Being able to count the blades of grass on the field during a football game is a very low priority for me, being able to watch the game at all is a very high priority for me. HD or not.

Is there a point anywhere in that little rant?

That's like somebody saying "I hate -insert food here- and will never eat it!" and you responding "Well you'd eat it if you were starving in a 3rd world country, liar!"

You're right; I'd watch the Broncos in black and white if I absolutely had to. But given the choice, it's HD all day and really worth the money.

Its a figure of speech, if theres a game on im just gonna watch it no matter what. I go and watch the bronco games if there not on national tv and its not HD. But its just not the same once you go hd.

I can live just fine with Digital. Ok, well, HD is hardly available here right now, but I´ve seen it in stores and the difference doesn´t make me want to spend a fortune.

One thing, however, that does make a difference like day and night is 16:9 to 4:3. You just see a whole lot more with 16:9.

Its not just the resolution.. which is stunningly better. Its the aspect ratio. 16:9 or widescreen gives you a much wider view. It really is night and day.. If you can't tell the difference, then the source you are watching is not high def. I have 20/10 vision, so maybe Slap is onto something. I just hate watching games in regular format.

I love my HD. I only watch the HD channels now. With sports, well I rather watch it in HD, but if the Bronco game isn't in HD, then so be it.

65 inch Toshiba CRT that I got a great deal on. They had it tagged wrong and I got it for 1000 bucks less than what it was suppose to sell for.

And does DTV have NFL Network HD yet?

If you have a chance to watch it in HD why wouldn't you? That whole stance is just pointless and petty. Its not a debate on world policy, it's just a much better tv picture.

Ditto, There aren't many channels available on HD through DISH yet and the cost of the HD reciever is prohibitive until most of their stuff is in HD. Till then I will wait. Actually there is not a great deal of difference in picture quality as I have watched and compared Direct, Dish and the local cable HD offerings.

HD can and does vary widely and a lot of times just because the originator of a program transmits it in HD does not mean the provider as in your local cable or satellite will forward it to you in HD.

There is a 720, 1180 and I believe a 1920 resolution and two kinds of each of those so things are still up in the air for HD right now.

I agree that ultimately the differences are largely inconsequential, but I don't care. I want the details, no matter how gory. I not only want to be able to count the whiteheads on Paul McQuistan's neck, I want to be able to tell which one will pop next.
While I don't have a computer, and am relegated to the pencil and paper that you mentioned earlier (I send email via carrier pigeon)...I know for a fact that the greatness of HD has nothing to do with visual acuity. My late friend Kenny (he was 80) had terrible eye sight, and a kickass huge Hi Def T.V. He called me a couple of months ago because the people at DirectTv sent him a new Hi Def receiver. We went out and bought the cable necessary for his system. We got everything nailed down...and he was able see things in Hi Def for the first time. (Whoever installed his stuff previously was taking advantage of a man with a personal nature so honest and good...that it's probably unbelievable unless you knew the man.)

In any case...we got everything sorted out, and when we watched the College World Series in Hi-Def Kenny saw the difference. I pointed out that he could almost sit in his backyard and see things clear as night... even with his failing vision. He replied with his usual "Gee...isn't that somethin'?"...only this time he had a charming chesire cat grin which showed how proud he was of his hi-tech system.

The bottom line is...if you can afford hi-def (not me), and you're a fan of sports that are broadcast in Hi-Def...take the plunge...it's awesome.

I'll admit the picture is better. The issue is whether it is so good that you'll pay for that $3,000 HD set and not the $300 regular set.

For me, the answer is no.

The picture isn't just better, it is 100 times better. I don't know what some of you are watching your HD on, but the difference is great on mine.

Even movies that have been reformated to HD look much much better than standard def.

And you don't have to go out and pay 3000 bucks for a HD tv. I got mine for 1499. Granted they tagged it wrong, but that is besides the point.

65 inches? You must have that sucker in a mighty big room. The biggest deal with the 16:9 ratio is the letterbox format, which is why it was created (for movies). But the flipside is that if you don't use that format, everything looks 'squashed' and compressed. Supposedly the rule of thumb is that if you watch mostly movies, go with the 16:9. If you watch everything else, stick with the 4:3. Something else about the 16:9, if the screen isn't just above eye level it looks like your line of sight is 'sinking' when you watch a flick, because everything is so horizontal.

Or it could be from drinking.

We just upgraded to comcast hd and the 'true" hd games, meaning they are shown in 16:9 format are freaking sweet. We have projector with a 100 inch screen and I was an awe when I first watched a game. The 5.1 digital sound is awesome as well, you can really hear the hits and the crowd.only problem is that there is not too much hd programs available here yet. I watched Leno in high def and it was great. Crystal clear.

Some of the top CRT tube sets have a feature where you can adjust that or get a 16:9 type ratio on the 4:3 screen. Mine does that. You get the standard 'black band' effect though, for the letterbox thing.

Comcast's Digital signal sucks. Their HD rivals other's I've heard but without seeing anything else, I can't say for certain...I have heard Directv's HD signals are sub-par.
