Probably all of the above depending upon the matchups. As it looks now, the Broncs have options at that spot that I can never remember them having in the past.

3rd WR comes in on 3rd and long. Marshall is a better possesion reciever than Kircus because of his size, but Kircus runs crisp routes, has great hands, and finds ways to get open. I voted Marshall because of where he is on the depth chart, but with Shanahan you never know.

Kircus has earned the first shot at it.
I do think it will change from week to week. There is a bunch of talent at WR. These guys will battle all year long. |

I picked Watts for his ability to get open on critical third down situations. Especially up the middle. I know his tendincies to drop balls on occations, but he has been much better lately.

Those drops are always going to be in the back of his mind and ours, the question is shanny going to take the chance of it costing us anymore wins at critical times? |

Rod, Javon, Kircus, Marshall, Watts....Possibly Devoe? Does Sapp have a shot? I bet we keep six receivers...and 2 QB's...bye Bradlee and Preston.

Watts has been listed as the #3 WR since the beginning of camp, and Shanny has said a couple of times not to read anything into his lack of PT the last couple of weeks, that they already know what he can do and just want to evaluate the other guys. Given that Watts had a very nice game in only significant action of the preseason, I'm going to take Shanny at face value on this one.
Plus, Kircus has not been as consistent as you would think. He had a very nice first game, was nondescript in the second game, had a pretty bad third game, then an excellent performance in the closer. |

Kircus should have caught that other bomb from Cutler for another TD last night.
Marshall is a chain mover, and I think will be our #2 WR next season. |

The third WR has never been important in our offense. I see no reason as to why that will change this year.
If anything, Tony Scheffler will be our third (option) WR. |

although i dont know how much Watts played i believe Kircus will be the 3rd wideout. The guy has been clutch and making some great plays on the field. I know Watts did something similiar a year or so ago but i just have this feeling about this guy. he looks hungry to prove himself out there and already has great chemistry with Cutler.

It'll be the claw, but if he drops a couple he's riding the pine. As the third receiver, he'll be in single coverage and he'll be like 7-11 out there - always open. He just has to find a way to snag the ball with that useless appendage.

Question: has shanny be more than patient with watts or would any other coach have kicked him to the curb along time ago?

I think he'll be less patient this year because of the great depth we have at WR. I would love for Watts to have a breakout year, but will it happen? Kircus has taken steps to prove that he can be the deep threat (#3 receiver). It's bad that Marshall has been injured and nobody could get a good look at him during game situations, but life isn't fair. It's Kircus' job to lose...

I voted Marshall, I think he takes the job by season's end. Until that point I think Watts will be the early season favorite, splitting time heavily with the other two (little more Kircus than Marshall so that he can get acclimated after his injury).
Kircus and Jake didn't show a whole lot of chemistry in the Houston game. Kircus will be valuable on KR/PR and as a special teams cover guy, as well as giving us some raw speed in the slot when we need it. I'm predicting an expanded role in '07 though when Cutler takes over. Watts will be the #3 early on, has experience with Jake and will finally overcome his jitters or whatever the hell it is that keeps him from hanging onto balls. He gets good seperation and will be invaluable to this team in improving the 3rd down success rate. Marshall will early on be our red zone 3rd WR, as the season goes on and he gets up to speed with the NFL he'll be a force between the hash marks as well, reducing Watts' role. Thats my prediction anyways. ![]() Last edited by Drek; 09-01-2006 at 02:17 PM.. |

It's nice to have some genuine talent at the #3 spot.
Years of Kasper, Cole, Montogomery etc... types, and we finally have some players who appear to have a head for the game. Good times! ![]() |

Kircus earned it... Marshall may take it away from him but he'll have toi earn it on the field and in practice. So, I think Kircus holds it for the first month or more. I can't believe our depth at WR all of a sudden...

Im not seeing the whole Kircus earned it angle. He made some big plays and he screwed up some big plays. He stop his route short and alligator armed an incompletion on a key 3rd down. The 3rd game I think he missed catches costing us back to back drives. One of his TD's was a blown coverage.....
Watts is #3 |
