Default Cowboys fine TO $9,500

I'm so thankful the Broncos didn't spend money on this guy who apparently thinks he has his own rules and wants all the attention. Has a hamstring that is giving him problems, supposedly, and now this? What an idiot!

T.O. going too far? WR reportedly fined $9,500

Associated Press

IRVING, Texas -- Terrell Owens has finally pushed the Dallas Cowboys too far, drawing a $9,500 fine for missing a team meeting and a rehabilitation session and being late to an offensive meeting, The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday.

"That's our club business. That's going to be accounted for," team owner Jerry Jones told the newspaper.

The incidents occurred Friday, the team's final day preparing for a preseason game against San Francisco. The Cowboys beat the 49ers 17-7, making them 3-0 this preseason without Owens playing any of the games because of a hamstring injury that's also kept him out of 19 of 31 practices since the start of training camp.

Neither team officials nor Owens' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, immediately returned calls to The Associated Press seeking comment Sunday.

During a postgame television interview, Jones did not mention the fine but answered several other questions about Owens. Jones said his only concern with the receiver is "injury, not all this other stuff you hear about."

Owens' past is filled with run-ins with quarterbacks, coaches and others in his own organization. San Francisco and Philadelphia got rid of him, but the Cowboys welcomed him with open arms and a lucrative contract in March, four days after the Eagles released him.

Owens vowed to be a better man and a better teammate in Dallas. While the fine is the most drastic, he already has done plenty to stand out.

He missed much of the offseason training program -- with permission -- and turned his hamstring injury into an attention-getter by flying in specialists to help him rehabilitate and wearing a cycling team outfit one day while pedaling a stationary bicycle.

After returning to practice for several days, coach Bill Parcells ruled him out of a Monday night game and Owens hasn't practiced since. He said he aggravated the injury because the club pushed him too hard. When Parcells said this week that he needs to see Owens on the field, T.O. responded that there's 10 years of tape to show what he can do.

Jones seemed to downplay the drama surrounding Owens' injury by noting that Carolina's Steve Smith and Pittsburgh's Hines Ward also have been slowed by hamstring injuries without drawing the same scrutiny as Owens. He also recalled Deion Sanders' ability to play well after flying in from baseball games and missing long stretches of practice.

"I know this -- when he's healthy, he's going to help us win these ballgames," Jones said.

The Cowboys play their final preseason game Thursday night at home against Minnesota. The opener is Sept. 10 at Jacksonville.

Theisman...just basically got on TV and called TO a lair based on his signing press conference. I wanted him here. I'm glad he didn't get here. Thesisman went on to say that the cowboys don't need owens for anything, and they should cut him before it gets worse. TO is going to team meetings...he isn't going for treatments.

Agreed. I wanted him here, but under the condition that he had a deal where his behavior was written into the contract. If he does not behave, he gets cut. He obviously would have been cut. Glad we got J Walk.

TO is dropping on my fantasy board like a rock.....

T.O. freaking kills me! In a way, he is right. Its not like established stars/proven probowlers need to show what they are capabable of in preseason. Parcells does have 10 years worth of tape to go by.

I'm loving every minute of T.O. in Dallas.

I don't think I have ever despised a player as much as TO, this guy is a slap in the face to the NFL and Jerry Jones deserves what he gets.

Fool me once (49ers) shame on you, Fool me twice (Eagles) Shame on me now I don't know where the fool me 3 times is going here but I wish the Cowboys would cut him and the only team willing to take him is a CFL team

From what I read, TO was this close to being a Donk.... aren't you glad this didn't happen.

There is a disturbing trend in the NFL, catch a few passes brilliantly and no matter what you do you can get away with it.

Drew Rosendouche:

"This is an outragee, an injustice and outright abuse of my client..." Oh wait, that the remaining Postron brother.

That hammy keeping him from putting up with a team meeting now? Or showing up for rehab?

Let me get this straight. He misses meetings, skips out on rehab and shows up late for the meetings he's gracious enough to make a cameo?

What a collossal a-hole. I should of left my Avatar alone.

His MRI's are negative. Rod Smith would just rub some Ben Gay in and go hit some poor safety.

Parcells absolutely HATES "that player". He picked up right where he left off. He's got a mental problem. I think he's one more misstep from the cutting room. I can't wait till Dallas tries to get their signing bonus back for conduct detrimental to the team and has the MRI's to prove it.

It's so obvious his disrespect to miss his rehab. That tells ME that he's not even injured. Even if he is he can make it to meetings and rehab.

I called this playing Possum a month ago. Brandon Marshall's injury showed up on the MRI, and he's expected to try to play next week. T.O's MRI's show dick. I hate that cockroach.

I can't wait for his next rap song where he proclaims how he showed them with his 20k signing bonus. I so much want to see Dallas cut his ass you don't even know.

This fvuckhead needs to have his signing bonus revoked.

No...that's completely incorrect....his prior film means nothing...he needs to show the team what he can do.

Its all about setting himself apart from the team. He's become addicted to the headlines and the negative attention his actions generate.

We've all known people who are sort of like TO. I call them conflict junkies. We've all worked with people like that. Some of us have them in our family. Some of us might have even married one.

Its not just in sports where we encounter people who behave this way. Most of us just limit our contact with these individuals and their behavior eventually alienates them from others.

You do find those people who combine this personality defect with some type of savant level talent, for example catching footballs at an All Pro level, and its amazing the accommodations people will make for them. This is obviously becoming an epidemic condition in the world of sports. Its been that way in the world of entertainment for several years. Huge corporations have arranged their schedules and finances around the drug addictions and mental problems of actors and musicians for decades now.

Our society worships superstars in any field and we'll bend over backwards for them and forgive their transgressions over and over. I think its a condition that will keep getting worse because young people have been exposed to it all their lives and they don't know anything else.

There was a time when athletes could be effectively blackballed for repeated aberrant behavior, but those days are long gone. We can thank Al Davis and other renegade owners who decided the means were justified by the ends. The Raiders weaved these criminals and misfits into their very team lore and the media and fans and NFL Films were happily complicit.

We've embraced the rebel and the anti-hero, but we're disappointed when they take it too far. Like testosterone laced egomania is easy to turn on and off. Not that we really want that to happen anyway. Fans are always applauding when an athlete is cocky and arrogant. They say its necessary to believe you're the best to be the best. ESPN the Magazine seems to exist solely to excuse the actions of rich arrogant athletes and we eat it up.

TO is a fool, but he's our fool. We made him and allowed him to exist and all he has to do is change his ways, even a little bit, and people will love him all over again.

One thing is for sure - as soon as his skills start to drop off a bit he'll be sitting home by himself. How much proof do you need that this one guy is just not worth the aggravation?

Yet another thing I was right about.

It really is a shame because when he was playing, the man was really something special. His skills really are unmatched and he could have broken Rice's records.

But instead, he will finish his career with less receiving yards than Rod Smith and odds are good that what would have been a Hall of Fame career has been flushed down the proverbial toilet by his spoiled bratness.

Its funny as hell, and sportswriters will tell you about these guys, some athletes are total jerks in their prime and then they try to reinvent themselves as nice guys as their skills fade. They call it, "saying hello when its time to say goodbye".

Say, TO has major drama all year long, maybe even gets suspended for a week or two. All it would take is a three touchdown game in the playoffs and the asskissers would fall to their knees and proclaim his greatness anew. Then, just as they did with McNabb, they'll rewrite history to make Parcells and Jones the bad guys. The people who loved TO before will fall for it all over again.
