Great Article for the Broncs bandwagon
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5889940 Plummer quietly having good camp Associated Press Posted: 4 hours ago DENVER (AP) - For a guy who led the Denver Broncos to the cusp of the Super Bowl seven months ago, Jake Plummer sure has had a quiet camp. Almost all the attention has been on prized rookie quarterback Jay Cutler, who is drawing rave reviews for his arm strength and accuracy but who will be carrying a clipboard when the regular season begins in three weeks. Plummer will be the one carrying the franchise's hopes of winning its first title since John Elway retired with two rings following the 1999 season. Plummer has calmly gone about his business of incorporating a new receiver (Javon Walker) and running back (Mike Bell) into the highly efficient offense he ran so impeccably last season while adjusting to the departure of offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, who left to coach the Houston Texans. Entering his 10th NFL season, Plummer said he's had fun flying under the radar but coach Mike Shanahan bristled when asked about his starting quarterback quietly having a solid first month of practice. "Not quietly from my standpoint," Shanahan said following Plummer's stellar start in the Broncos' 35-10 rout of Tennessee on Saturday night. Plummer completed 6 of 8 passes for 97 yards, including a 35-yard scoring strike to tight end Nate Jackson on fourth down, for a nearly perfect passer rating of 154.7. His only blemish was his ill-advised attempt to motor through linebacker David Thornton while trying to score on a scramble to the pylon in the second quarter, the type of reckless decision that Shanahan almost entirely vanquished from Plummer's stockpile last season. "He's played pretty well. He executed the offense very well, and the only thing I told him down on the 2-yard line was throw that ball away if it's not there, or get in there and slide early," Shanahan said. "You don't want him to take a shot if he doesn't have to." With newcomers Walker, David Kircus and Brandon Marshall all showing promise at various times during training camp, Plummer doesn't appear the least bit concerned that recalcitrant receiver Ashley Lelie, the NFL's leader in yards per catch the last two seasons, is holding out to try to force a trade. Plummer said he's getting more comfortable with throwing the ball to players other than Rod Smith, who had three grabs for 38 yards in his 2006 debut Saturday night. "I mean, Rod's as good as they get. I know I can throw the ball to him," Plummer said. "But seeing a guy like Kircus step up, or like Nate stepping up on a big fourth down, that's always nice." And he can't wait to start putting the ball in Walker's hands on a regular basis, too. "You know, I would like to get the ball to Javon," Plummer said. "We didn't get the looks to go his way, and that's what we have another preseason game for." Walker is coming off a knee injury that sidelined him almost all of last season in Green Bay. Dealt to Denver on draft day, Walker has been back to his spectacular self at training camp. Still, he was eager to do it in a game so he could get that all-important first hit to prove to himself and others that he's fully recovered from the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee that required two surgeries. Shanahan said he tried to get Walker a throw toward the end of his 20-play stint with the regulars but the coverage rolled his way and Plummer made the right read in not forcing it to the former Pro Bowl receiver. "We're disappointed he didn't catch a ball," Shanahan said. "Maybe he will next week." |

Rocket Man is third in the NFL in passing yards for the first two weeks of preseason with 291 years and a respectable 111.7 rating.
Jake is dragging his ass in yards with only with only 130 yards...hell he's not even on the leader board. (sarcasm). He has a little better rating of 137.5 ![]() It's only mid preseason but WHOOT! We haven't even been playing Rod much and Javon even less. It's just to exebition games but those are gaudy ratings. |

What is the point of making the playoffs if you can't do anything when you get there. Jake Plummer and the Broncos offense has to improve in 2 areas. 1. 3rd downs. Jake is terrible in 3rd and long. I used to doubt it, but it really is true. Our 3rd down efficiency was close to the bottom of the league last year. 2. Red Zone. We left way to many points on the board last year. This year we need to score 7 and put the pressure on the other teams offense making it easier for our defense ala the 98 team. Jake had a great preseason game vs the lowly Titans. Jay Cutler showed it doesn't take much. But again we sucked on 3rd down, going for it on 4th downs only because it was the preseason and wet. Jake better watch out on the fake stretch left, play action bootleg to his right. Kubes might just have Mario Williams ready to clean his clock. I truly hope Shanny takes that play completely out of the gameplan. |

He also broke Elway's yardage total in 2004. He just has a propensity to try to do too much at times. Look, I was surprised as anyone when we took Cutler, but he's a real specimen. Let the best man win...NEXT year. The thing is we rolled 12m in dice, and might wind up with the same vex as San Diego with two starters. Difference is Jake isn't injured and he's much older than Jay. I'm still livid about Reeves drafting Maddox when Elway was Jakes age.
Jake had a 154.7 passer rating last game. |

The truth in all of this is our ultimate destiny - qb contraversy heading into next year. Cutler will be ready by next year to start ultimately leading to a huge dilemna of what to do with Jake Plummer. Reminds me of Brees and Rivers situation. Should be fun to watch the whole thing play out. Personally I think Jake had the best year possible last year and his numbers should look equally as good this year, he has twice the talent at the WR position and a great aresenal of TE's - no reason he shouldn't do at least as well as 2005. But, all of this said, the qb position battle will grow exponentially if he does have a great year and leads us to the playoffs - the key to this whole season for Jake and Cutler will be what we do once and if we've made the playoffs. Donk fans - we're in a great situation here!!!

Our preseason schedule is pathetic. I think Houston will be at least respectable this year, maybe win 6 or 7. They HAVE to fix that line tho. There is one other QB that constantly got the snot kicked out of him, in the SEC. Rocket Man just snapped a finger back in while calling the play. He took a beating in the SEC and would just dig out the sod in his facemask and put his shoulder pads back under his jersey. Don't let the boyish looks fool ya. Jay is tough.

We are in a great situation, and unlike Lelie, Jake never shunned Jay, he befriended him. I've said this before, but it's worth repeating...we made Jake a QB he never would of developed into many places. When it's time for Jake to ride off, he's not going to be having the door hit him in the ass. I honestly think we will try to trade him to a team he's comfortable with, or possibly just grant his release. The way he played Saturday against an arguably bad team, he looks like he's not giving up like a certain SOB from a few years ago.

We goy VERY lucky that Plummer stayed healthy last year.
If we had to go w/ BVP, there would have been no home play-off game or even a play-off game at all. Shanny looks to have filled a major hole at back-up QB and set things up for the future. |

You have to like the QB situation this year. Jake has stayed pretty healthy during his time in Denver, and now you have to feel good about what will happen if he goes down. If he's out an extended time, he may never get his job back.
There's good reason to be excited about Cutler, but with him already being annoited to the HOF, how in the hell is he going to live up to the expectations? What if he ends up with the same level of success as Plummer, and not Elway? Elway still casts a very long shadow in Denver. |

Dont get me wrong i am excited for Cutler's future and hopefully one with the Broncos, but i just think its mind blowing that people think a rookie should replace a vet,, I guess im just tired of all the Jake bashing coming from everywhere including the Broncos fans.

What if Jake throws for a 154 passer rating all year, and wins the super bowl. Do we play him for one more year?

Of course they play him next year, he would have earned it, even by bringing us the AFC title.
