Default The NFL Cliche Thread...

Think of the most overused, hack cliches involving the NFL. Here's one I'm so sick of...

"Offense puts people in the seats, defense wins championships."

Yeah? How do you win with no points? And does everyone get up and leave the game while the defense is on the field? Stupid.

"The Chiefs will win the superbowl this year" or "this year the chefs will win a playoff game over (enter Team name here)."

It happens every offseason and the same result happens....

Everyone mocking Herm Edwards "You-play-to-win-the-game." Of course, you have to say this LOUD and SLOW and be a wiseass about it.

"He showed a lot of poise out there".

Seriously, enough with the word poise.

" was pretty vanilla."

Again, enough. USE SOME DIFFERENT WORDS! For example: Standard, regular, plain, maybe even average.

"Rookie mistake"

An error is an error. Shut up, get over it, get it right, move on.

Hahaha...yea, I noticed how tons of NFL forum-goers were saying "he faced a vanilla defense" when talking about Cutler or Romo or whoever. Hmmm, I wonder if they would've used that wording had Jay not said "vanilla defense," himself.

This is more of a general usage term, but its crept into the world of sports with a lot of regularity, too.

"It is what it is."

Well, isn't that a philosophical perspective? Really sheds a lot of light on any given situation, too.

Todd Bertuzzi made that phrase famous here in Denver. 950 The Fan has had a field day with those quotes ever since.

I like this one. Used a lot but half the time its used in response to some idiotic comment some idiotic announcer has made in an idiotic prediction.

By the way, I was reading a Match-Light charcoal bag the other day listo and it had both English and Spanish marketing on it and I noticed listo meant "ready". Then I immediately thought of your screen name (dont ask why because I dont know) and wondered if you had made that for "Pencil's ready" or it was just a coincidence??

I had a JUCO coach that said sharing a championship (tying) was like 'sleeping with your sister' - never quite understood it or why I would ever....how would that work Boob?

It's like this. You won the championship (got laid) but you had to share it (but it was with your sister so it counts but...yeah...not something to brag about).
