Mideast crisis Israel lost the war and did not achieve its objectives, Lebanese President Morocco TIMES 8/11/2006 | 5:35 pm http://www.moroccotimes.com/Paper/ar...idr=6&id=16524 The Lebanese President, Emile Lahoud, affirmed that "Israel lost the war and did not achieve its objectives", adding that "for reasons related to its internal policy, it cannot retreat, thus persisting in its aggression". During an interview with a Finnish television, the content of which was published Thursday by the Lebanese media, Lahoud affirmed that "for Israel, it is impossible to admit such a fiasco and that's why the Israelis continue their war by hoping to achieve a victory". "Lebanon was surprised by the American-French draft Resolution because it does not include any point mentioned in the government plan supported by the whole of the Lebanese people," he said, underlining that "the decision, made by the government, to send 15,000 soldiers to southern Lebanon will help the amendment of this draft". Lahoud explained that "sending such a number of soldiers is a guarantee presented by Lebanon", calling for the "return of the refugees, the number of which exceeds 1 million". In an answer related to the position of military resistance (Hezbollah) on this subject, Lahoud said that it is "part of the government and it has given its acceptance". “The preparations for sending Lebanese soldiers to the South started since the beginning of the aggression against Lebanon,” he added. The Lebanese president did not draw aside the possibility of asking for compensations from Israel for the damage it has been causing since the outbreak of violence. |

My view is that everyone lost this war. The planet lost. The environment lost. We have all been impoverished by it. MG

Shake your pom poms like a good little cheerleader and shill for the military industrial complex. If, tomorrow, the doofus in chief declares Greenland an enemy and a member of the axis of evil, you'll lock and load w/o asking any questions and w/o getting any of the facts. You're no better than the Nazis who stood trial at Nuremberg. That's why your takes are worthless here. ![]() |

*TOO many people are inclined to stick their heads in the sand and think wishing for it to go away is the answer. It's not, and never will be. The terrorists aren't going to standdown, nor should we or the israeli's. A Nazi?, far from it. But, have gotten used to being classed with various evil groups because I endorse taking the fight to the bad guys. Tell you what, you keep your head stuck deep in the sand, we'll cover your backside while you suck dirt, fair enough?.. |

Here is a report written by the Defense Science Board for the Pentagon and Donald Rumsfeld: http://www.acq.osd.mil/dsb/reports/2...munication.pdf You'll see that the board states quite unequivocally that they hate us because of our policies in their back yard - not because of our freedom or our way of life. If it's true that Bush sees himself in Churchillian terms, our problems in the Mideast are far from over. We have disasters in Iraq and Afghanistan, and now Lebanon. What next? |

Ha ha ha!
![]() I can just see W*GS' and SteveCoulter13's heads about to explode here... "Um, um, um, can I call 'em 'anti-Semites,' or not?" ![]() Israelis want independent probe into war - poll JERUSALEM, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Most Israelis want an independent investigation into the Lebanon war, an opinion poll showed on Thursday, putting further pressure on Prime Minister Ehud Olmert who has ordered a low-level inquiry instead. Olmert on Monday announced two committees would look into the handling of the war against Hizbollah, rejecting a full state probe headed by a retired judge that could have led to resignations in the government and military. Some cabinet ministers have criticised the decision and urged a state inquiry. Olmert will seek a vote on his decision at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday and is likely to get agreement despite the misgivings, one political source said. A poll of 500 people commissioned by Israel Radio said 64 percent of Israelis wanted a full, independent inquiry into the government's conduct, the army's preparedness and its failure to crush a relatively small guerrilla force. Olmert has acknowledged shortcomings in the way the 34-day campaign against Hizbollah was pursued but said he did not wish to expose the army to a drawn-out investigation. A shaky ceasefire came into effect on Aug. 14. The poll also showed poor support for Olmert in his centrist Kadima party. Some 39 percent of Kadima voters would prefer Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni to be the party's candidate for prime minister over Olmert if new elections were held. Only 15 percent would choose Olmert, while 46 percent were undecided. Despite calls for his resignation over the Lebanon war and a series of government scandals, many political analysts expect Olmert to survive for now, partly because there is no alternative leader waiting in the wings. There is also little appetite for new elections so soon after polls in March. The Lebanon war began on July 12 when Hizbollah guerrillas captured two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid. http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L31328123.htm |

It's my understanding that the Isreali public is upset at the conduct and the military strategy while the war was being fought - not against the war itself. My question is how did Hezbollah get that many rockets with a U.N. force supposedly in the area to monitor the situation? |

But, to address the issue you raise here, it's certainly not true that "the Israeli public" unanimously supported the war. |
